Love this!
New year, new you.
Seven steps to success.
Fresh start.
Clean slate.
Chase your dreams ….
We have all heard these phrases, and with 2023 starting I am reminded of my mother saying to my brother, sister and I at the dinner table on New Year's Day as she served us a heaping pile of black-eyed peas, "Set your goals this year!".
So that is my challenge to my family and myself this first month of every year, set your goals!
In 1979 the Harvard business school performed a study and surveyed a class of MBA program students and asked, “Have you set clear, written goals for your future and made plans to accomplish them?”
Here’s what the study revealed then:
• 3% in the class had written goals and plans
• 13% had unwritten goals
• 84% had no goals at all
Ten years later 3% of individuals with written goals had a higher net worth than the other 97% combined! To be exact, the 13% with unwritten goals earned twice as much as the 84% with no goals. Even more incredible, the 3% with written goals and plans earned ten times as much as all the others put together.
The Harvard study explains in depth, the goals need to be written down, with a timeline and plan of ex*****on.
In addition to this study, one of my favorite motivational speakers Eric Thomas talks about the importance of defining "WHAT IS YOUR WHY?" What motivates you? Why are you trying to reach your goal? Is it all selfish gain and a deposit in the bank, or is your motivation to help others? If you don't have good reasons WHY you want to reach your goals, they will not survive.
Yes, I have set goals and failed. Yes, I have experienced victory and defeat. Today when I look at the goals in my life, in and the life of my family that HAVE been reached and HAVE succeeded, I see they are a blessing to MANY. Glory to God.
The last and most important thing I have personally learned on the goal setting journey, is to ASK for God's blessing... God's permission... ultimately God's will to be done on earth as it is in Heaven. I pray about my goals and share the desires of my heart with God. It brings freedom and increases my faith.
Paul says it beautifully in
Philippians 3:12-14
12. Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14. I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
Have a blessed day,
