Throughout the year, CDP stages three community based dance performances and offers cost effective learning opportunities through integrated technique classes, community summer workshops, and adaptive dance classes for people with disabilities and special needs. Dancers and non-dancers of all ages and abilities explore movement within their own unique body structure, exercise their creative spirit

through movement composition and choreography, and reach outside their comfort zones by working with others in an environment of partnership, mentorship, and collaboration. With Cohesion Dance Project, dancers of all ages have an opportunity to learn a wide variety of styles including Creative Movement and Brain Dance.

Creative movement, a form of dance focused on individual expression and exploration through movement, has roots stretching back to ancient times and has evolved through various influences, including psychology, education, and artistic movements. Early childhood educators and dance therapists recognize its importance for cognitive, physical, and emotional development. Rudolf Laban, an Austrian-English dance theorist, is a key figure in the development of modern dance and movement education, emphasizing movement arising from the inner rhythm of the dancer.

BrainDance, developed by Anne Green Gilbert, is a movement-based practice rooted in developmental movement patterns that babies naturally follow in their first year. It’s designed to integrate these patterns, stimulating the central nervous system and promoting healthy brain development. The concept builds on the idea that movement plays a crucial role in wiring the brain, and that revisiting these foundational movements can help optimize brain function.

With Cohesion Dance Project, dancers have the opportunity to learn a wide variety of dance styles and techniques including Jazz.

Jazz dance, a vibrant and expressive style, evolved from a fusion of African and European dance traditions in the United States, particularly in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It was deeply influenced by the rhythms of jazz music and the social dances of the time, including those brought to America by enslaved Africans. Over time, jazz dance has developed into various styles, including social, theatrical, and commercial forms, continually adapting to cultural shifts and musical trends. Later, jazz dance continued to evolve, incorporating elements of modern dance and other styles, leading to the development of contemporary and commercial jazz forms. Influential choreographers like Jack Cole, Luigi Faccinto, Bob Fosse and Gus Giordano played crucial roles in shaping jazz technique and style.

Cohesion Dance Project is seeking a Part-Time Bookkeeper!

We are looking for someone who is upbeat, courteous and professional to join our flexible, fun, and creative team supporting the financial aspects of a dance education non-profit organization. The ideal candidate is committed to helping the organization run as smoothly and efficiently as possible with proficiency in QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel, payroll processing, and a full understanding of the General Ledger with the ability to make Journal Entries and adjustments. Additional bookkeeping tasks will include rental and outreach invoicing, financial statement preparation and reconciliation, deposit tracking, box office oversight and reconciliation, use of payment software subsystems, and more.

Other Job Information:

Position is part-time – estimated at up to 12 hours/week; mostly flexible hours
Salary dependent on experience
