The goodbye I wasn’t ready to make…
{Kankakee County Locals — this one’s for you}
Deep breath… this is a hard one to write.
We found out last week that The Flower Cart won’t be returning to the Kankakee Farmer’s Market this year. The Market is shifting its focus, and because we don’t grow 100% of our own flowers, our application was denied.
If I’m being honest — this one stings. Saturday mornings weren’t just about selling flowers… they were about YOU. The hugs, the hellos, the stories shared across the cart. The way you lit up when you saw the bloom that reminded you of someone you love. That’s what made it magic.
Joe and I started this six years ago with a simple dream — and you turned it into something we never could’ve imagined.
→ Like the woman visiting the nursing home, choosing *that perfect* shade of blue delphinium for her mom whose health was declining.
→ The dad who picked a bouquet for his wife AND one for his daughter every time they stopped by.
→ The little one running up to the cart, proudly picking “the pink one, please!” for her mom.
→ The couple who stood side by side, selecting each stem to build a bouquet for their home.
→ The girlies who showed up for themselves — because “I can buy myself flowers”.
→ And the regulars who swore they didn’t need more eucalyptus… and left with a bundle anyway. (You always need more eucalyptus. 😉)
This post is about a change in our business… but it’s always been about YOU. We’ve never taken your support for granted, and we’re deeply grateful. 🤍
>> To be clear: we’ve never wanted to compete with our flower farmer friends — we’re BIG fans of what they do. Our heart has always been to complement, not compete. Community over competition, always.
So yes, we’re grieving. But also dreaming again. Because serving this community is still the heartbeat of what we do.
>>> FOR NOW: Follow along over at to stay in the loop & drop us a comment letting us know where you’d like to see us! 💛
With so much love,
— The Flower Cart Team
