We spent the morning cutting back our peonies. They have suffered this season with all of the Spring rain and now drought. It's a bit earlier than usual but with limited rain coming this week I felt it was really important for the roots to be able to grab as many raindrops as possible.

We will let them rest a week or two, probably run the sprinklers on them a couple of times, and then dig some for sale. This season we will be selling the roots of some of our Duchess de Nemours (a soft white with soft yellow center) and Felix Crousse (a double medium pink). See the last two pics.

If you want to be on the list for peony roots please reach out! Details of pick-up will be provided as we get closer to digging in a couple weeks!

I have never met a Celosia that I didn't love. I let them self sow, I save seeds, I buy new seeds and I let them all live together in a hoop house. I love the different colors and shapes that come from the self sown and saved seed plants.

The fact that they love the heat is a good thing this season! No rain again. Storms all around us but none breached the mountain behind us. Maybe today?

Celosia, pretty much the only crop that is loving this heat! Oh and the eucalyptus is as tall as me...which would be more of an achievement if I was taller, but still!

Rain dance anyone!

Someone's getting a well today!!!! Omg!! Well folks are here, electricians are here doing finish work, our buddy Eric Bradford of Bradford Construction is here and cabinets are being placed.

I'm down at the tiny house starting seeds for over-wintered crops and I swear I am putting all the seeds in the same place...can't concentrate with all this activity!

The reality of lack of rain for weeks in our perennial field. Deformed, dried up, small blooms on our shrub Clematis and Delphinium elatum.

Needing some rain here in western Maine! All of the storms have missed us and now no rain in the forecast last week, this week and next week.

Rain dance anyone!!

Our little farm irrigation pond is finally getting some love. The overflow culvert had a hole in it that got bigger every year. That meant water loss and the spring underneath could only fill the pond to the bottom of the culvert! The water was murky and dark.

Culvert is coming out and a simple rock overflow will go on the southerly rim. The underground spring should fill the pond to the top with fresh clean water

Thanks Jimmy Drake of Drake Construction in Hebron!.
