When Ronald Reagan called him a ‘libertarian’, Barry Hess thought he was calling him names. He explained it was because Hess ‘would not back up “one iota” on principle; and because he held the government to the same moral standard as he would an individual.’ Later, Hess was told that Reagan recounted the incident, and said it was the highest compliment he had ever paid anyone in politics. Hess took that to heart, and in 1986; he let the world know he had been a libertarian all along; he just didn’t know it.
He has been actively involved in Arizona libertarian politics since 2000, and never looked back. He has run for Governor a number of times, and is doing it again. This time, it is real, and he needs your help to make Arizona, “America” again.
