The Donkey's Cross

A poor farmer near Jerusalem had a small donkey who couldn't carry as much as his other donkeys. Because the donkey couldn't earn his keep, the farmer could not afford to feed the donkey so he tied it to the road for anyone to take. Some of Jesus's disciples were passing and took the donkey. That little donkey later carried Jesus to Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. The little donkey so loved his gentle master that he followed him to Calvary. But the little donkey could not bear to see Jesus on the cross, so he turned away but couldn't leave. So the shadow of the cross fell upon the little donkey's back and there it stayed, a mark of love and devotion for all to see. And since that day, donkeys have been born with a cross on their back.
