Yall please remember to keep this sweet family in your prayers.
It’s been two weeks since I’ve posted on this page, and honestly, that’s probably the longest I’ve gone without posting in a very long time.
The last two weeks have been busy, exhausting, and emotionally heavy. Bailey and I have literally been putting in about 16 hour work days on our house.
We’re still fighting childhood cancer every single day, just like we have for the last 14 months.
Axel is doing well, all things considered. Bennett is doing well too. This week is a big one for us with several appointments, including anesthesia for a spinal tap with Methotrexate (chemo) and Vincristine (chemo) through Axel’s port.
Physically, Bailey and I are worn down.
Mentally, I’ve been in a valley.
Childhood cancer is cruel. It’s unfair. It’s hard enough to walk through the cancer itself, but lately I’ve found myself grieving all of the secondary losses that have come along with it too.
Our lives were turned upside down overnight.
Between Northern Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky, we’ve been juggling two households for over a year now. We still haven’t moved back home. Since January, when a pipe froze and burst in our permanent home causing a major water leak, every weekend has been spent working. Because we weren’t there for a week, the damage was extensive. Bailey and I have done 95% of the repairs ourselves while also trying to navigate cancer treatment.
We’re getting close to the finish line, but I’m tired.
I thought summer would make me feel better. I thought the sunshine would help pull me out of this funk.
Instead, summer has brought a different kind of grief.
My children can’t have a normal summer.
We can’t just take a vacation and leave. We have to stay close to Axel’s medical team. We have to think about blood counts, appointments, chemotherapy, ports, spinal taps, and infection risks.
There is so much grief that comes with watching your family’s life come to an abrupt stop while it feels like everyone else’s world keeps turning.
Childhood cancer has stolen so much from the four of us.
And the hardest part?
We’re not even halfway through treatment yet.
At the same time, I know how blessed we are.
Axel has been stable for about two months. His treatment is moving in the right direction. My little family is together. We have a roof over our heads. We have people who love us and pray for us.
I’ve learned that grief and gratitude can coexist.
Before childhood cancer, I don’t think I had ever experienced two emotions so opposite at the exact same time.
This journey is a roller coaster.
I know I’ll climb out of this valley again. I always do.
But right now, I’m sad. I’m tired. And I wish things were easier.
Please pray for Axel as he faces a big week ahead.
Please pray for Bennett, Bailey, and me too.
Please continue putting our family on prayer chains. Please continue lifting us up when God places us on your heart.
Pray for peace that surpasses all understanding. Pray for comfort. Pray for strength. Pray for healing.
We need it more than ever.
And as always, thank you for being here. Thank you for following our story. Thank you for carrying a piece of this burden with us in the ways that you can.
A cute picture of the only “normal” day we’ve had in the last two weeks. This was a fun day. I pray that things will start looking up for us and most importantly, these sweet babies soon. My heart has never hurt so bad in my life. 🧡🎗️
