Greens and Grounds Announcement- Please be vigilant with your turns and the speed taken through the turn when using a golf cart. Turns that are made too fast and tight damages the turf. Our decision making this year for whether to allow carts off the path after rain events has been very lenient. With more of these damaged turn marks appearing by the day it makes it difficult to allow carts off the path. Please be vigilant of your driving when using carts off the path.

The short game area got a lot of attention this week from greens and grounds. We have sodded out the dirt spot on the green in the corner. While removing this blemish we reduced the slope in the area as it was too severe causing the mower to scalp the grass killing it. This created the dead spot and algae and moss filled in preventing future grass growth. With the new sod in place and a lesser slope the mower should be able to cut the grass without scalping. Please refrain from walking on the new sod for the next couple weeks and allow it to grow in. The collars also got some love as they were top dressed with sand and fertilized. The top dressing will help protect the crown of the plant, or the growing point at the base of the leaf blade, from scalps and help level out the surface.

It’s aeration week for greens and grounds. Greens were aerated and top dressed. Approaches were verti cut, aerated, and top dressed. Fairways were verti cut. Tees are verti cut and will be aerated and top dressed by the end of next week. This is a crucial process not only for plant health, but helps create fast and firm playing conditions. This process also helps with water drainage as there is less thatch or spongey material to absorb and hold the water. The aeration holes also act as drainage channels for the water to go.

A friendly reminder from greens and grounds to please keep all beverages off the turf as the beverage can kill the grass. Also please apply all sunscreen and bug spray products on pavement and not on the grass as it also will kill the grass. The spray mixture will burn the turf that it comes into contact with and leaves a scar. This can be seen in the picture above as a person applied sunscreen to their legs and a partial footprint was left behind as it did not come into contact with the sunscreen.

Massive congratulations to the Haworth CC 17u PGA Junior League team. 2026 State Champions! They will represent the club and NJ at the Regional Championship in Virginia in September.

Greens and grounds are busy this morning cleaning up after last nights storm. The club got over 2 inches of rain last night. Thankfully no trees have fallen, but there are branches that need to be cleared from the course. Majority of the bunkers washed out and have silt in them. The crew is working on shoveling the silt out of the bunkers and fixing the washouts along with removing branches from around the course. Also working on clearing drains around the property.
