From the Class of 2026 Top 10, meet Duncan Laibly, parents are Brad & Allison Laibly

Duncan was involved with the Marching Band, Jazz Band, FIRST Robotics, and National Honor Society throughout his high school career. In the marching band, Duncan played the tuba and was selected to become the Music Section Leader. He also played the trumpet in Jazz II. Duncan was a member of Hartland’s 3536 Electro Eagles FIRST Robotics Team for all four years of high school, where he rose to Media Team lead and Mechanical Team Co-lead. Duncan aided the team in competing at the World Championships in Houston, Texas, three out of his four years of high school. Duncan will be attending the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He hopes to play the tuba in the Michigan Marching Band and intends to join the Formula SAE team.

From the Class of 2026 Top to, meet Madelyn Gutzeit, parents are Craig & Janelle Gutzeit

Madelyn has been a member of the Hartland Marching Band for four years, where she led as a drum major her junior and senior years, and earned two national awards of distinction: Drum Major First Class -Traditional Style, and Meryl Smith Most Outstanding DrumMajor. She also performed in the Jazz 1 ensemble on the alto and soprano saxophones, and played intermission piano at various concerts. Madelyn was a captain of the Hartland Varsity Archery Program, where she earned state, national, and world championship titles with her team. She was also dedicated to Hartland’s chapter of the National Honor Society, where she served as a vice president of service, and mentored on the LINK crew, a freshman-support program. Madelyn will be attending the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor where she plans to pursue a career in biomedical engineering.

Over the next 10 days, we are going to introduce the Top 10 students academically from the Class of 2026 to the community!

Meet Leilani Chyo, parents are Betty & Timothy Chyo. Leilani is involved in many different extracurricular activities such as NHS, Link, Choir, Class Council and Marching Band. This year, she served as Student Council president. Through this role, she presented at the MASC/MAHS Regional Conference, represented Hartland High School at monthly KLAA meetings, and led student council meetings. Leilani is also amember of Hartland Choir. She has been a part of the MSVMARegional, State, and All-State Honor Choir. Additionally, Leilani is a competitive baton twirler. Through this sport, she has won numerous state, regional, national, and international titles. In the fall, Leilani plans on majoring in chemistry at the University ofMichigan. Leilani was also selected to be a baton twirler in the Michigan Marching Band where she will perform at the Big House in front of over 115,000 people
