Redfield design Alternative Couture Designer Redfield is a new and ever evolving company.

The designer, Kathryn Paterwic, gives lectures around steampunk fashion and proper Victorian behaviors. She is inspired by Victorian counter culture, the way that the mental state of the world in the Victorian age is reflected in fashion of the time and what happens when society’s corsets strings are pulled too tight. She also goes by the adage more is more (more clothes can be more sexy) and the theory that leaving things up to the imagination is sexy.

I have been trying really hard to figure out how best to share this, but I just couldn’t wait anymore. Lots of you have probably already seen my update on the Book but… TaDa, the corset is done, and this is MASSIVE.
While I can’t go to NYCC this year, I still want to keep to the schedule I set when I was planning on competing there. The requirement is to have 85% done (I think) to enter, and I think we hit that mark today. If my plan worked, I would submit it at the end of this month. The wig is at the same point it was last time I updated you all on this build, BUT the gems have been a case, which is a great step forward. Those STUPID LILYS will be the death of me, but we have a month or 2 to figure those out.
BUT I AM TRYING TO LIVE IN THE MOMENT WHICH, I REARLY DO, SO…. YHEA.

WARNING RANT AHEAD
I haven’t really wanted to speak out about the Wheel of Time cancellation by Amazon Prime because I hate hearing the Book Clokes and their call of “ the book was better, this is unrecognizable” (stop being hyperbolic, by the way). The worst thing, I heard yesterday “ I would have enjoyed it if it was called anything else” ( No, as someone that watched Wizard of Earthsea, no you wouldn’t) 🤬 Are you serious? SPOILERS AHEAD FOR THE BOOKS AND TV SHOW.

I am not going to lie, The Wheel of Time and its content is not why I watch TV, does that make sense? I watch TV to laugh, most of the high fantasy shows I haven’t watched unless there is a reason but I did watch WOT. On the other side of the couch, I have tried for years to get my husband to read the WOT. It is everything he loves in a book (high fantasy, politics, world building, he would probably love the slog) but he hasn’t and he really enjoyed the show, did the cancellation make him want to read the book😫😫. Nope he still hasn’t read the books yet but he did start re reading a book from the Warhammer series again.

Did the show have its problems, Yes but DID THE BOOK HAVE PROBLEMS, absolutely. The people glad about the cancellation seem to put the books on a pedestal like it did have problems, like it didn’t need a stronger editor. THERE IS A SECTION OF THE BOOKS CALLED THE SLOG THAT RUNS OVER SEVERAL BOOKS. That shouldn’t happen and do you honestly think that a viewer, with all the streaming available, is going to sit through a boring season OR TWO, NO, hell I was super worried when Perrin went back to the Two Rivers we were going to be there for 2 seasons and that section of Perrins arch in the book 😒😒😒 .

I might have to make another post of about the costumes which is what I get asked about a lot but at the moment I should leave this rant off it is already starting to get rambly, I need a good editor too😅😅😅

I haven’t wanted to share updates on this project because everything I am doing at the moment is small detail things. All the bases and shapes are there.
Today, we are making the moldes for the corset gems and sanding what I have been calling the muscle shells, but are the pieces that go at the bottom of Satines light blue section. When these pieces are done, it is on to the headpiece, which still gives me PTSD to think about, and I don’t say that lightly I get a minor panic attack thinking about this stupid thing. I know it definitely doesn’t look like I worked on this from my last update but I had to reinforce the whole teal part of the chair and the Chicago screws that hold the chair to the wig itself, THEN repaint it…..
But this will DEFINITELY be done for Granite State Comic Con. I was hoping to compete with it at NYCC but that probably will not happen due to finances this year BUUUUUTTTT maybe bring it to C2E2 next year to compete (while it is farther it will be cheaper). Yeah, it kind of messes up my resume, but 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️What can you do? One con is not worth bankrupting yourself and to those who say “Just save for it” I have been saving all year only been to cons I am working at but it still isn’t going to work out.

Also, because there is a lot of waiting involved and working so slow, I have had the time to start me jedi

I am here.
I am alive.
It is one of those “so many things are happening and nothing is happening”. I have so much to say, so many reels saved, so many ideas hopping around I can make posts about but… it is 100 here, which it shouldn't be and I have reverse SAD, which means where most people get depressed in the winter I get depressed in the summer. Add to that the national instability, the fact that everytime I go on social media the world is ending in every sector and I feel a MASSIVE amount of guilt scrolling by without watching the whole thing and showing my support in the only way I can at the moment… (I am also donating money). My hands are getting worse just just while typing this my hands have gone numb twice.
It has not been a great month. OH OHHHH and because I have missed posting, the socials are going to punish me by not showing my post to anyone so I can’t even get the endorphins from doing a post doing really well… HELL you know what does really well BIRTHDAY POSTS but because the pattern armageddon and NO KINGS happened around my birthday I didn’t even do that….
I don’t even know that tags to use on a post like this. If you think of one, comment them because I am at a lose.

So many posts, so little time.
I am thinking of just doing 3 drop posts at once, we will see.
First off, JUNE 15th, if you are in or near Hartford CT, I am working with the to put together a Costuming group. This month, we are working on our Con Crunch event for ConnetiCon in July. This doesn’t mean that if you want to bring you, Ren. Fair, Drag, Burlesque outfit, we will not welcome you with open arms. HELL, I have a friend who is bringing a quilt because we have tons of space and big tables.
I am thinking of making this a larger event and including one in late September, early October, focusing on Ren. Fair, horror, and those would are INTENSE about their Halloween Costumes (you know who you are). Then, one in January focused more on a skill with a presenter and a hands-on workshop. But I am also open to ideas, or if anyone wants to suggest a workshop.

Oh hay, they are out 😅😅 I missed my own announcement but here we are. Can't wait to head back to Key City Steampunk and all the craziness that comes with it.

Paladins are steadfast allies in the mystic realms. They are the heart and shield of the great seekers of epic-ness, and our latest Guest Announcement is nothing short of epic. Key City Steampunk Presents: THE ADVENTURER'S GUILD is thrilled to welcome back Redfield Design this August 8th thru the 10th in Gettysburg PA.

Redfield spends her days teaching high school students what it takes to be a professional seamstress as well as the ins and outs of technical theater. The rest of her time she spends building award winning cosplays as both a master level Stitcher and Foam Smith. She encourages everyone she meets to be creative and think outside the box.

Redfield loves breathing life into two dimensional characters, creating a living entity tethered to this universe with familiar details she pulls from history and research. Her cosplays can span popular culture, literature, folklore, legends or a mashup of all of these. She believes that the details are key, helping the audience suspend disbelief. Anything from accessories, cuffs on a sleeve and the shape of a skirt, to prop weapons and armor, can all work together to give cohesion and maintain the illusion of a cosplay. She focuses on making sure garments flow together, whether it is different fabrics or other materials. Well versed in all manners of fabrication, Redfield's panels are not to be missed.

Redfield tries to learn a new skill or technique with each project so she can better teach others in a way that is comfortable for them, no matter their skill level. Each skill can be as simple as a new sewing technique she has never tried to a huge undertaking like creating a massive foam Space Marine. Redfield also likes to take on projects that challenge her mentally and are self affirming. She believes it is always important to be proud of what you have created and feel fabulous with the results

Join Redfield, along with our scores of other guests for a weekend of panels, music, vendors, workshops, games and more. Learn more about the event, book you room (while you can) - purchase your tickets, and explore the growing story behind Key City at www.keycitysteampunk.com
