“Heroes get remembered, but legends never die.” ⚾️

And neither does The Sandlot! Which this team happens to be called! We recreated it with this crew as a surprise for their coaches, and even Wendy Peffercorn made an appearance. And fellas… “She knows EXACTLY what she’s doin’.” 😂

I’ve been lucky enough to watch most all of these boys grow up (and most right alongside my daughter there..Wendy 😉) and everyone of them have been behind my camera multiple times. Add these guys with some other of their friends here in town that play and this team is destined for greatness. They'll be The Sultan of Swat. The Kings of Crash. The Colossus of Clout. The Great Bambinos!

See y’all back here in 7–8 years for the recreation. Same poses. More facial hair. Probably worse decisions.

Summer was FULL. Full of loss and hard days, but also some pretty amazing memories made. Full of volunteering, running in a million directions and squeezing in a little prep for the crazy season ahead. And with all that..the rush has officially started! 📸

My very first Senior of the year stepped in front of my camera and apparently decided we were starting this season with the bar HIGH because he is a STRAIGHT. UP. MODEL. 🔥 (The fire is also because it was approx. 186 degrees outsde 🤣 ) My favorite part was him bringing his boxing gloves-something I've never photographed before!

After 23 years, there’s still something about the start of this season that gets me pumped all over again. Senior Season has started!

I told the Staff yesterday "You are history makers!" And today..it was the kids turn to be the same! Today wasn’t just the first day of school. It was a FIRST first day!

Today, hundreds of kids walked through the doors of the brand new Mercer County Elementary for the very first time, making a little bit of Mercer County history along the way. No students had ever had a first day in those classrooms, walked those hallways as their school, or started a school year inside those walls until TODAY!

The staff has worked endlessly over the last several weeks, unpacking boxes, putting together furniture, organizing classrooms, figuring out new spaces, and doing everything possible to make today happen. And today, all of that hard work finally paid off! Of course, a brand new building means learning what works, what doesn’t, and probably changing a few things along the way, but from where I stood, there were smiles all around.

Apparently Mother Nature wanted to make sure this first day was extra memorable, the morning started with a torrential downpour and a pretty impressive storm. 😂 But it didn’t dim this day one bit because there was plenty of sunshine INSIDE those doors!

Going to photograph the first day of school every year has become one of my favorite traditions. I love seeing these little faces year after year, watching them grow, seeing familiar ones come back and meeting all the new ones joining us along the way. This year felt a little more special knowing we were documenting a day that can never happen again.

I’ve been at every Mercer K-12 School, every single day this week shooting one event or another preparing for the end of the year, yearbooks, graduation and the opening of the new Elementary. I absolutely love that I’m with these kids so often they have no problem high-fiving me in the hallway, coming to me for whatever help they need at the moment, asking me to take their picture and especially the hugs and waves from wherever they are. Last night I didn’t go to MCIS to document the Glow Party. I went just to be a Mom. Buttttt I had a light in my car and a phone in my hand and they were having too much fun not to document! Dr. Guerra loves to plan a party, and these kids love to be a part of it! Feeling so grateful for every Teacher, Staff and Administration in all Schools that pour into our kids all year long and cares for the social/emotional part of them just as much as the educational. Hope everyone has a great Summer!

Mercer's Prom was a good time! Always is! I didn't plan to photograph them arriving, but I put up an extra light I had behind the curtains and grabbed some there, then some with the backdrop that they prepared and the best-on the dance floor! A little of it all! I worked NINETY-ONE total hours last week and am still recovering from it, but I had to share some of these! I have decided to give them all as free downloads. This guy is going places! Literally...signed to Indiana State in the Fall! I think we rescheduled and postponed this Session 43 times..broken bones, weather, loss of loved ones, mandatory meetings..I started to think we were going to have to meet up at 4am when we were both available lol. I remember when this guy was born and have watched him be the sweetest "baby" of the family that has always been adored, and clearly still is! He's going to do big things!

Saturday was WILD. I stood, sat, laid, climbed and fluffed out dresses more times than I can count from 2-11pm to document some gorgeous couples before Prom and then was at Prom too for every second and it was fabulous! There are wayyyyy more to finish and I will also post some from actual Prom here soon too 😉, but I just had to share some of these. I'm usually not as indecisive as I was Saturday. I loved mixing the use of flash, using natural light indoors, doing high contrast with only window light and adding in some natural light ones outside. It makes editing a nightmare for me, but it was worth it to try some of each I was envisioning. So thankful to get to document these days and some of them I started doing so nearly 2 decades ago! What an honor! I hope Prom was as amazing as you all looked that night!
