Annndd that's finally a wrap on breeding season! We've been at it since March! This is Kiya's confirmed pregnancy! Read on for the abbreviated version of this year's breeding season!

We decided to breed 2 Clydesdales & 1 Shire, all of them to outside stallions. Using an outside clydesdale stallion on these particular mares increases our chances of a c**t that we could retain as a future herd sire against our Sanford fillies. 1 Clydesdale (Charm) wouldn't cycle. 1 Clydesdale (Penny) finally took after 2 cycles. We made a last minute decision to swap Kiya in for Charm.

We bred our Shire (Daytona) to an outside stallion that was a little smaller than our stallion Rush. This would be her first foal & Rush throws very big babies. She didn't take after breeding her on 3 separate cycles. 🙄

Sooo, we ended up with 2 confirmed pregnancies, Penny & Kiya. We will recheck them & Daytona too, later in the year. We are planning to pick up Kiya & little Bud & bring them home on Saturday!!!
P.S I will not be selling flowers at the market on Saturday!

It's been a busy month so far! Despite the lack of rain & high temps, the hay fields are getting mowed & baled. Some fields have gotten reseeding for fall.
The flowers are finally coming into bloom too!

To any of our neighbors who may have seen this strange bird flying around, we have the answer!
It's actually a Red Tail Hawk! It has a condition called Leucism. It's a genetic condition that causes partial, patchy, or total loss of pigmentation while retaining eye color. Only 1 in 30,000 Red Tail Hawks are born with it!

While our cell phone cameras couldn't catch a clear picture, we knew someone who could! Larry Guilliams was gracious enough to camp out all day & take these amazing photos of this rare beauty and also of her chicks! Thank you Larry for giving us a clear view of this beautiful bird!

My winter sunflower experiment.
Can I have sunflowers for mother's day?
Started about 35 seeds on Feb. 20, in a spare bedroom, under grow lights. Most of them sprouted fairly quickly. That was the easy part!

Potted them up to 3 gallon pots, 7 plants per pot. They were not longer under grow lights & who has room for 5 3gal pots in their house?😅 Plus I started more a week later!

Thankfully, with the mild spring, these babies got to spend most of their days outside and their nights in the basement.

It's safe to say that this experiment worked. I will have sunflowers for mother's day except for the fact that I have to work all of mother's day weekend and can't go out & peddle my sunflowers! That's ok because my family enjoys getting my fresh flower experiments!

Bonus thought..There are sunflower seedlings currently growing in the garden!

Wonder if the calves would let our baby Clyde join in the fun! 🤔They could teach him all about squeezing through the fences and how to find the best spots of grass in the hayfields!😂
