Countertops are one of the biggest decisions in a kitchen reno — visually and functionally.

I’ve seen (and/or lived with) just about every surface out there — granite, marble, quartzite, quartz — and I’ll be honest, it’s not always an easy decision. Some materials are timeless and natural, others are low maintenance and practical, and each one has its own quirks.

Lately, I’ve had a lot of conversations about how to choose the right material for a space — especially when you want your kitchen to feel classic, collected, and true to the home’s style. I’ve even seen some beautiful quartz installs that still feel… just a little off. Sometimes it’s because the house calls for something with more history — and sometimes it’s just about finding the right finish or tone.

I pulled together some thoughts in my journal about the pros and cons of each surface (including the ones I love and why). If you’re trying to figure out what works best in your space, I hope it helps!

And if you’re still stuck? I’m always happy to weigh in. This is one of my favorite design decisions to make.

Welcome to The Ferguson Cottage — where shutters are sacred, wallpaper is therapy, and lake life is basically a personality trait.

If you’ve ever cried over a torn-down farmhouse, driven across the state for the “right” stone slab, or thought “vinyl arbor” sounded like a personal insult… you’re in the right place.

Home is where the beadboard is.

There's something timeless about a celebration by the water - especially one that feels equal parts nostalgic and elevated. If you've ever dreamed of a lakeside celebration filled with subtle nods to Americana, simple yet elegant details and that unmistakable up north magic, this wedding will speak right to your soul. From a pontoon boat arrival to wildflower moments and historic charm, this summer wedding was a masterclass in how to keep things relaxed yet refined.

Let's take a look at one of the most memorable wedding days I've ever had the joy of designing - a day that still plays like a song in my mind.

July always feels like the heart of summer—and the Fourth is its shining moment. But while so many are gathering for big celebrations, but sometimes I find myself craving something a little quieter. A slow morning. Just the two of us.

I imagined this simple brunch using vintage pieces from around the cottage (and even a few surprises from my Christmas bin!). With a pop of red, white, and blue and the soft hum of lake life in the background, it turned into the sweetest little moment.

If you’re craving a slower kind of celebration too, I shared more over on the blog—decorating tips, styling ideas, and a peek into how we made this cottage table feel quietly festive.

What really makes a cottage a cottage?
It's not just the size or the location - it's the feeling. The nostalgia, the gathered memories, the cheerful, lived-in vibe. Whether it's tiny and rustic or big and breezy, cottage style is about comfort, color and connection.

And we'd love to bring that style to your space.

“You’re a wedding florist… what makes you qualified to design someone’s home?”

I’ve heard this more than once—and I get it. On the surface, weddings and interiors might seem like two totally different worlds. But here’s the thing: they’re not.

When I am designing weddings, I'm not just playing with flowers. I am crafting entire environment—moods, layouts, lighting, flow, and details—all centered around how people feel in a space.⁣

And that skill? It translates beautifully into interiors.⁣

If you’ve ever wondered how someone could shift from events to homes, or if you’re just curious how it all connects, I wrote a post for you.⁣

I’m sharing what I really did in the wedding world, why the jump into interiors makes so much sense, and how both come down to one thing: **intentional design that tells your story.**⁣

Let me know your thoughts—I’d love to hear them.
