For 5 years, I have been throwing a quarterly EDM event called SNNY NITES at Cancun Cantina. The dance community is a culture built on PLUR (Peace Love Unity Respect), and people express themselves freely by the way they dress. It’s actually one of the strongest forms of expression you can have.

In my 5 years, we have always been welcomed with respect and open arms. People from all around the DMV, and even all around the country, who would probably never step foot in a country bar have come to these events and had some of the funnest most memorable experiences.

I am SO SORRY and hurt by what happened last Wednesday. No one should ever be rejected for wearing a hijab, or anything that coincides with one’s culture or religion. Although I wear a mask for my brand, my nationality is middle eastern, so believe me when I say I understand how painful of an experience this must have been.

I personally know the owner and his family, and had he been there at the time, this never would have happened. It was an awful judgement of a “brimless hat” policy by the staff involved, and I know & trust the leadership will be educating their staff and doing better moving forward.
