Hanover Symphony Orchestra

Hanover Symphony Orchestra Making Hanover a better community, one concert at a time. As a part of its mission, the Hanover Symphony Orchestra has established a scholarship program.

Founded in 1995, the Hanover Symphony Orchestra (HSO) is a non-profit, volunteer orchestra dedicated to fostering the love of music through entertainment, encouragement and education. The inaugural concert on November 5, 1995 featured the First Movement of the Unfinished Symphony by Schubert, The Royal Fireworks Overture by Handel and the Triumphant March from Aida by Verdi. In the spring of 1997,

the orchestra began awarding $2,000 college scholarships to deserving high school seniors and $300 summer music camp scholarships to deserving students of any age. To date, 26 college scholarships and 23 summer music camp scholarships have been awarded. Throughout its history, the HSO has also demonstrated a strong commitment to the community through benefit concerts. Organizations that have benefited from these concerts include: the Greater Hanover Area Red Cross, Hanover Area Council of Churches, Hanover Area Literacy Council, Hanover Public Library and the Eichelberger Performing Arts Center.

When you support the HSO, you ensure that the next generations of musicians have access to great education opportunities through our HSO Kids! program. This year, 30 local middle school students received instruction from HSO musicians and performed two selections with us in front of a packed Eichelberger Performing Arts Center. An incredible experience for them!

Donate before 7:00 today to maximize your donation thanks to generous Give Local York stretch pools.

What a day at Eichelberger Performing Arts Center! Thank you to everyone who made yesterday another sell out crowd at The Eich.

We wrapped up our 30th season in style. The first half featured a fun selection of classical pieces, and the second half was comprised of pieces by Composer in Residence Rossano Galante. We were joined by HSO Kids for two pieces, and concluded with the world premier of Hanover Landscapes.

Stay tuned for more information about our July 4 concert and our 31st season starting in the fall.

The Hanover Symphony Orchestra is saddened by the passing of bassoonist Janis Wagner. Janis joined us six years ago as a substitute and went on to become our 2nd bassoon, occasionally filling in as principal. She was a talented musician, a dependable member of the orchestra, and above all a wonderful person. She will be greatly missed, and we are grateful for the music and friendship she shared with the HSO family.

Celebrate the life of Janis K. Wagner and join others in sharing memories, stories, and condolences.
