Sharing a little joy today! 💕
Now that the weather is finally nice, I got outside to catch up on some long-overdue weeding and mulching. That’s when I noticed just how much these little lilac babies have grown.

Nearly 15 years ago, a friend called to tell me his elderly neighbor had passed away, and her house was going on the market. Her family decided the backyard garden needed to go — they thought a plain lawn would sell faster.
But this wasn’t just any garden — it was a fairytale. It filled her entire backyard with flowers, buzzing bees, and beauty. A true pollinator’s paradise.

They invited me to take anything I wanted before it was cleared.
I rescued hydrangeas, irises, spirea, baby’s breath, lilacs, and more. I dug and hauled as much as I could — and gifted most of it to my mom.
She planted them at her house, and every year would call me to tell me how they were growing.
Her favorite? The lilacs.
She loved the dreamy blooms and sweet scent — even though a neighbor once complained because she was allergic (sorry, neighbor!).

When my mom passed, the lilacs were too big to move.
But two tiny baby shoots were just starting to grow, and I dug them up and planted them here at the shop.
I protected them carefully — wooden stakes and all — hoping they’d make it.

Today, they’re 3 years old, and they’ve more than doubled in size just in the last month!
Still no blooms yet — just lots of green leaves and fresh growth — but it brings me so much joy to see them thriving.

I wonder how many more years before I see that first bloom… but for now, I’m just grateful they’re here.
They’re a living memory of love, growth, and a little bit of magic.

What people don’t see about running a flower shop:

They see the pretty bouquets, the smiling deliveries, the fresh flowers on the counter.
What they don’t see is the early mornings unlocking the shop and completing orders before the sun comes up.
The long nights, sometimes 24 hours straight, designing hundreds of arrangements for holidays and events.
The 7-day work weeks — even though we’re only officially open 6.
The late-night deliveries for the customer who forgot a birthday, but whose loved one still deserves to feel remembered.
The sacrifices, the missed family gatherings, the physical exhaustion, the emotional weight, the loneliness…
I do all of that. ME.

But I keep going. Every single day.
Because this shop isn’t just a business to me — it’s my mother’s dream. Her legacy. I’ve been in and out of this shop for nearly 30 years. As a kid, sometimes I’d spend the day here with my mom at work. Even before she was the owner, this shop was a part of my life. In her last year of life, I was lucky enough to be here, training, learning, making our last memories together, and realizing just how important this was to me.
And I have the determination, passion, and heart to keep it alive exactly as she intended and I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.
