MEET THE BAND : Marcus James is a versatile drummer and musician who refuses to be defined by a single genre, believing anything can become music with the right arrangement. He began as a pianist in the jazz band at St. Benedict’s Prep before unexpectedly filling in on drums—a moment that changed his musical path.

Marcus went on to study Music Education at Berklee College of Music, performing with various bands and touring for several years. After moving to New York, a 2020 contract with Florida Studio Theatre brought him to Florida, where he eventually connected with J Santi and helped form The Vital Groove. Today, Marcus brings his versatility, musicality, and dynamic feel to the foundation of the band as they release their debut album and continue building toward what comes next.

The whole thing is a vibe. It's improv but it's intentional. It's honest but it's a story. It's consistent but always different.

One of the biggest influences on The Vital Groove is Stevie Ray Vaughan and the funky groove of "Couldn't Stand the Weather" had to be present on the upcoming album. Be sure to get your copy on VINYL (with a full album digital download card inside) at JSantiMusic.com

MEET THE BAND; Originally from the Mid-Atlantic region, Chris Sussman has been playing bass and performing live for nearly four decades. After years performing with bands throughout Virginia, Washington, D.C., and the surrounding region, Chris relocated to Florida’s Gulf Coast and became part of the local music scene. Drawing from rock, funk, jam and groove-oriented influences, his playing is rooted in the pocket, with a strong emphasis on feel, groove and serving the song.
