Once upon a time I was a 20 something with a little Nikon point and shoot that I loved taking out so I could have sweet pics for my MySpace page. My bff Alice Allen Williams stayed in my top 8. And not only was I lucky enough to be her friend but with that came getting to know and love her baby boy, Gavin. We were both single moms at the time and leaned on each other which meant I’d get to babysit. If you were stuck with me for any period of time at that point, we were making art, hence his little portrait below. Imagine how touched I was when Gavin reached out as a grown man wanting me to be there for his elopement.
The sentiment gets lost so often in what I do. Its so easy to get worn down by the emails, expectations and planning of perfect locations and all the moving parts that i forget why i even began. Im not the fancy photographer, and I’ll probably never sell my work as art, or shoot the famous people or make it big in music or movie stills. But I am THIS photographer. How lucky am I ?? I raised my babies and a business with the little time I had and people loved me enough to put up with whatever using me meant (typically longer wait times, no sneak peeks, sparatic communication, etc) and the gratitude I feel for the loyalty and being a lifelong passenger for some of the biggest moments in people’s lives is overwhelming. Just look at this! From holding a little sign for his mama to holding his vows being read to his wife!!!! I am beyond blessed, yall. And this is probably cringe and also not the time you’re supposed to post and blah blah blah so who knows if anyone will see my story but it was one worth telling 🙂 thank you for being here. ❤️
