Redbud Hill – Band Bio
Redbud Hill is a band born out of friendship and a shared passion for traditional bluegrass music. Based in Oklahoma, the group features Kaitlyn Means, Rachel Reichert, Audrey Schmidt, and Scott Schmidt—four musicians united by their love for rich harmonies, heartfelt lyrics, and the timeless sound of bluegrass.
Kaitlyn Means has been steeped in bluegrass her entire life. She began playing mandolin at age 10, joining her parents and sister in The Horn Family Band. Through years of performing, Kaitlyn developed a finely tuned ear for harmony singing and vocal arranging, skills that continue to define her musicianship today. In addition to performing with her family across the region, she has recently taken up the fiddle—adding yet another layer to her musical versatility. Audiences eagerly await the day she joins Rachel on stage for twin fiddle tunes.
Rachel Reichert, a native of central Wisconsin, grew up surrounded by music. She began playing violin at age five and was introduced to bluegrass at 15, often joining her banjo-playing dad at local jams. Rachel went on to earn a degree in music and history from the University of Wisconsin–Superior before moving to East Tennessee to immerse herself in bluegrass traditions. Now based in Oklahoma, Rachel’s dynamic and expressive fiddling quickly caught the attention of Kaitlyn, Audrey, and Scott—sealing her place in Redbud Hill.
Audrey Schmidt has been singing for as long as anyone can remember, performing her first solo at age seven. Inspired by artists like Alison Krauss, Reba McEntire, and Dolly Parton, she’s spent her life blending heartfelt country storytelling with bluegrass soul. Audrey led worship for her uncle’s cowboy church services during college and later joined the Celtic group Vintage Wildflowers, recording two albums with the band. Returning to her bluegrass roots, she now anchors Redbud Hill as lead vocalist and upright bassist—and is excited to introduce her own songwriting to the band’s repertoire.
Scott Schmidt is a multi-instrumental powerhouse whose musicianship continues to captivate audiences. A National Mandolin Champion at age 16, Scott has also won the Oklahoma State Mandolin and Flatpick Guitar contests multiple times. Beginning violin at age four, he grew up performing with his family band Hammers and Frets and has since played with groups including Common Tyme, Mark Phillips and IIIrd Generation, and The Hunt Brothers Band. His technical mastery and creativity bring unmatched depth to Redbud Hill’s sound.
Redbud Hill made their official debut in March 2024 at the Greater Oklahoma Bluegrass Music Society in Oklahoma City. Since then, they’ve performed at the Bluegrass & Chili Festival, the Tallgrass Music Festival, and the legendary Stage 5 at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas. The band continues to delight audiences across the region—and looks forward to their upcoming show in Grove on November 8th. cdC
