If you're like me and didn't grow up in Western Pennsylvania and therefore did not experience this amazing tradition, hear me out. You'd think you'd want something savory before dinner, like a charcuterie board, but no. Once that long spread of goodies catches the corner of your eye, cheese and crackers are dead to you. This is the beauty of what is often referred to as "The Pittsburgh Cookie Table."

Essentially during "cocktail hour" while the wedding party is taking pictures, guests get to feast on every kind of cookie that has ever been made. Buckeyes, cupcakes, buttery cookies with different homemade jam, nutty and sugary cookies, chocolate dipped biscotti, the classic chocolate chip and brownie cookies, fruity cookies, pizzelles, Russian tea cakes, macaroons, and so many more.
Traditionally, aunts, grandmothers, and various friends and family pick their favorite cookie or pastry and make several dozen of them for the wedding reception (by the way, this does not take the place of the wedding cake and/or other desserts served after dinner; seriously).

Unfortunately, I did not know about this yummy contribution 21 years ago when I got married. So all of you Eastern and Western coast peeps- you're welcome. Bring on the sweets and enjoy "The Cookie Table!"
