‼️FOR ALL MY BUSINESS OWNERS…HERE’S THE FULL STORY:
I had a potential customer who didn’t want to use my Square payment link because she was afraid of being scammed. She told me she prefers Cash App or Chime because that’s what she normally uses.
And I paused… because this is something a lot of business owners don’t realize…
Cash App, Chime, Venmo, Zelle — those are consumer-to-consumer apps. Yes, Cash App allows you to have a business account but most P2P apps are not built for protecting business owners or customers in disputes, fraud, chargebacks, or taxes.
Square, Stripe, PayPal Business — those are merchant processors.
They create:
• Receipts
• Transaction records
• Buyer protection
• Seller protection
• Tax documentation
• And legal proof that a transaction happened
…and maybe I’m a little bias because I worked for Square but their system works great!
So, when a client refuses to use your invoice or payment link and wants to send money another way, that puts both of you at risk — not just you.
There’s no contract connection, no dispute trail, and no real way to prove what the payment was for.
That’s how people get scammed… and how businesses get burned.
And here’s the part most startups miss:
When you accept money all over the place — Cash App here, Zelle there, Chime over here — that’s called commingling funds.
It makes it hard to track income.
It creates tax problems.
And it makes your business look unprofessional to banks, lenders, and investors.
This is why it’s important for new business owners to know that their payment system is not just about getting paid — it’s about protecting their company.
Having one central, professional processor means:
• Clean accounting
• Legal protection
• Client trust
• And real scalability.
