Well, life happens. And so does red tape for filing LLCs. BUT WE’RE HERE NOW, dangit! 😂🤩🥳
Alex here and I am OVER THE EFFING MOON to (re)introduce you to — the new owner/operator of !!!
Most of you know Collyn from back when she was our behind-the-scenes inbox correspondent and scheduler extraordinaire. Well, she’s back and ready for more and y’all, this company is in THE best hands.
When I set out to sell this business and brand I was honestly looking for a unicorn of a human — q***r, keen eye for detail, approachable, activist heart, outspoken, organized AF, solid work ethic — and ummmmm, the universe delivered big time. I had no idea Collyn was looking for something new in addition to her other work but it was like stars aligning in the sky. I put it out there and Collyn responded with interest and an open heart.
It feels so good to be handing this beauty over to her. In all honesty, I was considering closing this business entirely but I’m real grateful I let go and trusted the universe would have my back.
Without any more ado, I give you the inimitable Collyn Warner!
So go ahead, ask Collyn your Q’s and show her some serious love in the comments below. She’s here for the long haul with surprises already up her sleeves.
As for me, I’m signing out. If you ever need anything, hop over to .iloveyou.keepgoing and give me a shout! I’m headed off on new grand adventures and I’d love it if you were along for the ride.
And Collyn, thank you. I love you. Keep going. (You GOT THIS! I can’t wait to see what you dream up for the wedding industry.) 🌈💪💖🥰

I started those many moons ago with a simple passion: event planning and coordination should be fun and as stress-less as possible for all humans.
As a q***r non-binary human in the world, my mission and drive behind our work became even more clear when, a couple years after the business was founded, the Supreme Court ruled that same-sex marriage was legal from coast to coast. At that point, our hyper focus was on providing our clients the most direct path to accessing the wedding industry, which had been built upon inequality.
I grew this tiny part-time business to a thriving enterprise serving hundreds of clients across the country and then, thanks to the internet, created a virtual wedding planning platform specifically built for q***r folx navigating this cishet whitewashed industry.
Y’all, it’s been a whirlwind and a dream come true. I’ve met some of the most caring, thoughtful humans. I’ve designed and set more tables than I can count. I’ve nurtured a business and learned so. many. lessons. And I’ve lit A LOT of fu***ng sparklers. But maybe most importantly, I’ve had the privilege of shepherding so much love out into the universe.
And now, it’s time for someone else to carry that spark and brightness and love into a new era. Tomorrow, I get to introduce you to that person and say my final farewell to you, my beautiful friends and chosen family. But today, I honor every moment I’ve shared with you all. I could say I’ve grown a lot these seven years and it would be true. But the fact is, you’ve grown me. You’ve nurtured me and my passions, my drive for justice, my love of humans and all things true and honest in this world. And I gotta tell ya, my business owner cup is full.
So thank you. I’m deeply grateful for your love and support.
If you’d like to continue seeing my face and following me on my adventures, please head over to .iloveyou.keepgoing and say hey. I’d love to keep in touch virtually and hopefully one day soon, out in the post-COVID world.
And stay tuned. I’m so excited to introduce you to the new face and heart behind this kick ass brand. We’ll see you tomorrow!

I know it’s June 1st and I know I said I would be dropping news about what’s next for but sometimes you gotta postpone some s**t.
This is my first time back here publishing anything since the beginning of the year and I want to make it absolutely crystal that has and will always be on the side of justice for black people.
Yeah, it’s Pride Month. And yeah that’s important. But if your pride posts and excitement aren’t centered around black q***r and trans folx, I’m not here for it.
As a wedding planning agency, we celebrate.
But today, and for many days to come, we fight.
In solidarity, my friends. 💖

02/25/2020

Oh hello, Alex here. I’ve been having an “It’s not you, it’s me” moment with my businesses lately and after a lot of digging deep I’d like to share, we’re going through a trial separation. Answers to some of the questions I’ve been maneuvering are below but the TL:DR version is: I’m unhappy. The last seven years or so have been incredibly illuminating and growth-filled for me and some humbling opportunities have been sent my way. I am grateful for all of it and all of YOU, truly. This will be my last post here on this feed for a while so please feel free to follow my personal account on Instagram .iloveyou.keepgoing if you’d like to keep up with me.
Q&A’s:
Q: Are you still planning weddings?
A: Clients that are currently booked with us either via full service or virtual planning -- big fat yes to business as usual. However, I won’t be taking on any new clients of any kind at least through the trial separation, at which point I will reassess.
Q: How long is the trial separation and why are you calling it that?
A: June 1st is the end date of the trial separation at which point I will revisit the ideas of continuing the business(es), selling the brands or some other option entirely. I’m calling it a trial separation because it made sense in my brain. Like a lot of unhealthy marriages, I was experiencing similar feelings around myself and my relationship to and with my businesses. And also like a lot of unhealthy marriages, I was incredibly caught up in the finances of it all and was no longer enjoying what I was doing. The long and short of it is: just because I’m decent at something doesn’t necessarily mean I should do it for a living anymore.
Q: But what about all the q***r folx that need support in this industry?
A: 1. It wasn't and will never be my responsibility to save everyone from the mess that is this cis/het/affluent/white industry. But 2. It is my responsibility as a q***r human and ally to marginalized communities to call out the systemic injustices present and to continue being a nurturing presence for folx attempting to navigate it, which is why the Lucky Penny Creative Instagram account (with Rad Human + highlight reels) and the website (which showcases our Affirming Vendor Directory) will continue to be up and running while I’m away. 3. Don’t sleep on accounts like Catalyst Wed Co, The Not Your Average Wedding Show, Equally Wed + Equally Wed Pro, Dancing With Them and How They Asked.
Q: What about Rad Business Co.?
A: Same rules apply. After June 1st, we’ll see where I’m headed.
Q: What brought all this about? You’ve got so much good going for you. Why quit now?
A: This is a tough one to answer in just one post so I’ll likely share more later. However, I’m a big fan of living a connection-based life. The more I thought about my future in this business, the more I realized just how disconnected I felt. I’m good at math. That doesn’t mean I should be an engineer. I’m good at listening. That doesn’t mean I should be a therapist. I’m good at planning weddings. But maybe that doesn’t mean I should be a wedding planner anymore. All I know for sure is that the spark has faded and I’d rather dig into what that means rather than avoid those feelings and pretend like everything is fine. I’ve been witness to plenty of miserable marriages for long enough to know that those behaviors aren’t healthy for me.
Q: What next?
A: I have no idea...do you?

Hey team, I wanna share something with you. Before you get to the dance floor to shake your ass to The Wobble, there are a few things that need to get lined up. Alright, more than a few...
Ask anyone who has planned a wedding and they’ll tell you, it’s essentially making a series of decisions every day for an entire year or more. But guess what...
It doesn’t have to suck like some folx will tell you. Depending on who you ask they might say, “Oh my god, planning our wedding was a nightmare I couldn’t wake up from!” But 9 times outta 10, especially if you ask our clients, they’ll let you know that, save a few moments of stress — typically around money and family dynamics — planning a wedding wasn’t so bad. They felt held and cared for and like they had a knowledgable friend helping them every step of the way.
And lucky for you, if you’re a q***r or intentional ally human navigating this bizarro industry on a budget, our LPC Online Virtual Planning membership has literally every tool we use with our full service clients + more and it’s all downloadable so you get to plan on YOUR time and on YOUR budget.
So what do you get with your membership? The next few posts on our feed will hit on the highlights so follow along!
The first layer I’ll be talking about today is your Monthly Planning Tools. In addition to downloadable Monthly Checklists to keep your planning on track, there are Monthly Videos with yours truly sharing insider info, wedding planner know-how and my favorite solutions to the most common issues that arise with each piece of the planning puzzle.
You also get full downloadable and editable access to our GIANT Planning Spreadsheet filled with tabs covering everything from guest list management to seating charts to vendor contact info and SO much more.
Tomorrow I’ll be talking about our LPC Online Community so come back to the feed and our stories for all the deets, my friends!
👇What’s something you’re navigating right now in your planning (or had difficulty with if you’re already married)? Lemme know in the comments so I can help!

Hey! Here’s a giant Monday group hug with all your best humans to remind you of all the love that FOREVER surrounds you.
Fun fact: I definitely forget that I have “my people” sometimes. I get super caught up in “I got this” entrepreneurial thinking and then I sometimes hit a wall and remember, oh right, I can reach out and ask for a hug or a coffee hang or a walk and not just be that human for everyone else.
So, let’s find our rad, safe humans and hug ‘em BIG today, okay?
A quick Last Month/This Month update for ya before we get too deep into February, shall we?
LAST MONTH:
- Celebrated the turn of a new decade!
- Was featured by Facebook for Business 😍😭
- Hosted a Civic Dinners + Facebook dinner here in for socially conscious business owners!
- Hosted a KICK ASS LGBTQ+ Youth Summit with Pride Link!
THIS MONTH:
- Starting a behind-the-scenes social media series all about LPC Online so YOU can see what it’s all about!
- Going to Charleston for a little change of scenery and some hangs with Undergrowth Photo.
- Prepping for The Not Your Average Wedding Show in Charlotte on Saturday, March 7th!
What’s one thing you did last month that you’re proud of? (Spoiler alert: I’mma virtually high five the s**t outta you!)

What’s one thing you’re looking forward to in February? (Spoiler alert: I’mma cheer you on BIG time!)

I’ve been debating whether to share this or not and after a conversation with Latia Curtis Makeup and Hair about how this type of thing happens ALL the time for marginalized folx, I wanted to air it out.
Welcome to my DMs. I get messages ALL the time from folx wondering if we could chat about how they can make their business better as an ally to the q***r community. Sometimes they have a short and simple DIRECT and CLEAR question and I’m able to respond within a matter of a few seconds. But sometimes the messages are like this...
“Hey! I’d love to pick your brain about how I can make my business more affirming. Can you spare an hour?”
I’m always excited and eager to reply because my heart is hopeful. “Absolutely! Here are my rates and here’s a link for more info! I’d be honored to work with you!” Because truly, I would be honored. Nothing brings me more joy than to help a small business tackle the work of becoming a stronger ally, particularly in this industry that I know and love so much.
But my time, talents and expertise (not to mention my lived experience as a q***r human) are VALUABLE. And the therapy sessions I prioritize for addressing my own s**t so that I can better show up for you in our working relationship while honoring the emotional labor that goes into working with you, those don’t pay for themselves. Neither do my taxes. Or bills to cover my home office. Or food to nourish my body so I’m better able to focus. Or my own professional development courses that I pay for to better my work.
When you hire a plumber to fix a leak, you pay for it.
When you go to a salon for a haircut, you pay for it.
When you seek legal council with a lawyer, you pay for it.
When you reach out to a q***r-identified business coach to learn best practices and position your business as a proud ally, you pay for it.
This is not me being petty. This is me knowing my worth and standing in my truth.
My name is Alex Fisher, I am Founder, Owner and Head Cheerleader of Lucky Penny Creative + Rad Business Co. I help q***r folx navigate the wedding industry and I work with allies to breathe more equity and kindness into their businesses.
And I would be honored to work with you.

This imagery by Kendrick Daye encapsulates everything I’m feeling today.
I will say only this: If I die tomorrow I want to know without a doubt that my actions today were for the good of all people. And I don’t plan on dying tomorrow. I plan on living. And for me, to truly live is to truly live in service to all. No. Matter. What.
What does your service look like? Who do your thoughts, words and actions benefit? For some of us, it will be our greatest challenge on this earth; to honestly answer these questions and to hold ourselves accountable. But this challenge must be met, whenever possible, by as many of us as possible, if we are to truly see equity and peace on this earth.
If you have the privilege of breath today, speak love.
If you have the privilege of abundance today, give freely.
If you have the privilege of status today, take action.
For all.

In the summer of 2019, Facebook for Business reached out to me letting me know that I had been chosen to be one of 6 featured businesses for a video series they were creating. In August, they sent a crew of rad humans to little ol' Greenville to film me and some of my most favorite wedding professionals for 3 days. Magic was made. And today, we share it.

To be perfectly honest, these 90 seconds capture the tiniest fraction of the love and energy and warmth that I felt over those three days. To be seen for who I was -- a q***r southerner femme badass business owner -- and to be celebrated for it by strangers now friends....and to make literal magic with industry professionals that I care deeply about who are also doing big things in the world of weddings -- it was a 3-day-long blessing I didn't know I needed.

Thank you. Thank you Facebook for sharing q***r stories. Thank you, Stept for sending your A Team to Greenville. Thank you Ethan Johnstone for supporting me every second of every day. And thank you, Little Alex, for trusting adult me to step into the limelight a bit and see where it takes us.

MAJOR love and cosmic energy to the following humans whose work and behind the scenes talent made this video and the styled shoot you see featured in the video possible. Follow these humans and shower them with love.

There are few things greater than a shared meal with friends. Made even better by incredible conversation. And that is the shortest intro ever to my invitation for you, my fellow small business owners, to join me at the table on January 15th at Huguenot Mill!
Facebook for Business x Civic Dinners have come together to create a magical night here in and it cost zero dollars — oddly enough the same amount it costs to be a decent human in the world, which is what we’ll be talking about at dinner!
Click the link below to head to the registration page so we’re sure to save a seat with you!
So, show of hands, you comin’ to join me and be a part of the conversation around making Greenville and evening better place? Tag your biz buds so they can be at the table too! Stoked to see you there, my friends!

Oh hey what’s up?! My name is Alex, owner and head cheerleader here at Lucky Penny Creative! I’m so glad you’re here!
A few things:
- I’m a big fan of proper hydration (thanks for this sneaky pic from S&J’s wedding day Pool Party reception, CarolynMarie Photography)
- Rather than resolutions, I take the lead of Queen Oprah Winfrey and choose a word for the year. 2019’s word was ‘Confidence’ and 2020’s word is ‘Action’.
- Lastly, I am in the business of holding space in the wedding industry for my fellow q***r community and allies. Planning weddings is quite the adventure already. And when you add being members of marginalized communities into the mix, it can sometimes = heartbreak, discrimination and complete let down. But the point I attempt to drive home is, it doesn’t have to be like that!
If you’re q***r or allied and planning a wedding, I’d love to invite you to a free Community Magic Hour call where you can submit your specific questions you’re having trouble finding answers to about YOUR wedding and I answer them live with you!
The call is taking place on Wednesday January 29th at 7pm ET. Send me a DM with your names and email addresses so I can get you signed up!
In the meantime, I’m curious to know how you’re feeling headed into a new year (and new decade!). Lemme know what’s poppin’ for ya in the comments and send me a DM if you’re interested in getting some free wedding planning know-how later this month!
Big love, y’all. Always. 🥳💖✨
