Is balloon sculpture an art, a craft?
Is wood sculpture an art, a craft?
Is pottery an art, a craft?

What do all of these have in common?
They are all made into objects by hand, right?
They all use a purchased raw material to create a finished product.

Definition of CRAFT:
to make or produce with care, skill, or ingenuity

Definition of ARTIST:
(1) a person who creates art (such as painting, sculpture, music, or writing) using conscious skill and creative imagination
(2) a skilled performer

I would NOT find inflating helium balloon to be a "craft" or an "art form" but our hand twisted balloons do meet the requirements of
of these definitions.

Let's take Woody for example:

He is sculpted entirely by hand from round and straight balloons. His facial features and cow print spots are all hand painted onto the balloon surfaces.

It takes experience and skill to create the balloon animals, face paintings and sculptures that we make.

Anyone who wants to treat me like it's not an art form is going to get a fight (yes I am talking to YOU - Columbia Farmers Market) from me because...

(1) I am proud of my business, what we make, and our mission to deliver joy through our wholesome, engaging balloon twisting and face painting.

(2) I'm going to hand them a pile of balloons and tell them to make Woody - because I know they cannot do it.

(3) I'm going to challenge our local government to step up, defend artists of all kinds equally, and stop the arts from being snuffed out by people who simply have no appreciation.

All forms of art are important in the lives of children, families, in the community, God gave us emotions and then he gave us creativity so that emotions could be expressed and shared in healthy ways - art teaches children healthy expression.

They apparently like to editorialize what "crafts" are by something other than the definition.

Good morning everyone!

We're a bit cramped in the shop today ... we're not finished installing the theatre seats just yet, so some rows of them are piled up on one side of our already too small shop.

BUT WE ARE OPEN

today and tomorrow if you want us to twist up an Easter Balloon Creation for you, or if you just want to stop in to say hello.

In the first week of May things are going to get "a whole lot better" in our shop, as we complete setup of the theatre and more than double the space we use to serve our community.
