A message from the GBUFO High Commander:
Hey y’all, it’s been a long, sad, strange, and stupid week here at the Green Bay UFO Museum Gift Shop and Records and i wanted to make one last (i hope) post about ‘this whole Max Bemis thing’ to wrap up some things before i refocus my efforts to the (desperately necessary) task of selling vinyl records (GBUFO is a record store!)
First, i want to thank our followers, visitors, everybody who has helped GBUFO to make noise, stand up, take on creeps and whatever else. In the least corny way, it means the whole galaxy to us to have friends and supporters like you all. But I want to make sure that we’re all clear that GBUFO isn’t just standing up for you, we’re standing WITH you. It’s an honor, and we hope y’all include yourselves and each other in sharing that gratitude.
Second, for all of the extreme losers (of all kinds) in the comments section(s), please CHUG A FART. There was some ugliness, victim blaming, antisemitism, unnecessary ‘what if’ing, and of course the very vocal contingent that’s mad that we support charities and thinks we are getting rich from views/engagement? To really boil the bottoms of that last bunch (and because i was gonna do it anyway) GBUFO is donating all of our payments from Meta platforms in the last week to local charities for domestic violence and at risk women. It’s not much, but i don’t feel like it belongs to us and after a week of hearing the saddest most heartbreaking stories if abuse— i’m sure they can use it.
And lastly, for the ‘he’s clearly mentally ill and you’re being mean’ bunch:
Effective immediately I will be taking a short leave of absence to address my own mental health struggles which have been exacerbated by the heavy load of negativity and horrors of recent. I plan to use this time to watch Josie and The Pussycats (2001) on VHS, play Nintendo, and listen to ambient smooth jazz with animal sounds mixed in (and yeah, crying a lot); It’s not the same as berating strangers, stalking people online, and grooming teens, but i ask for your understanding, consideration, and quiet while i navigate MY (distinctly different and special in it’s own way) mental illness without your judgement.
