A Magical Milestone
I’m deeply honored to share that I was awarded the Harold Martin Stage Trophy at this year’s Houdini Club of Wisconsin convention!
This award carries a special legacy. Harold Martin, born in 1902, was a legendary figure in magic. For over 70 years he supported magicians as a dealer, performer, and mentor, always believing that hard work, practice, and thoughtful presentation could elevate even the simplest trick into true magic.
In 1956, Harold donated this impressive trophy to encourage excellence in stage performance. The very first recipient was Richard Mehring, whose award-winning act set the bar for all who followed. To have my name now engraved on the same trophy that began with Richard’s is both humbling and inspiring.
My own journey in magic began in a small town in Indiana when I was twelve years old and someone showed me a simple trick. That moment sparked a passion that stayed with me throughout my life. Years later, I made the leap to pursue magic professionally. Under the guidance of modern masters of the art, such as Jeff McBride, Larry Hass, and Eugene Burger, I’ve been fortunate to bring my love of magic to audiences across the country.
For me, magic isn’t just about deception. It’s about creating moments of wonder, connection, and possibility. Whether performing close-up, strolling, or on the stage, my goal has always been to craft experiences that remind us of the joy of believing in the impossible.
I’m grateful to the Houdini Club of Wisconsin for keeping Houdini’s spirit alive, to Harold Martin for his vision, and to all the past recipients of this award, beginning with Richard Mehring, who inspire me to carry the torch forward. And of course, I’m deeply thankful to my family, mentors, and friends whose encouragement has made this journey possible.
Here’s to honoring the past, celebrating the present, and continuing to share the magic!
