BRRR Mother Nature is really messing with us this year. 30 degrees this morning at the Uncommon Ranch. In August?!?!?!?
Reminder to our lavender lovers - if you live in the Midwest and growing in Zone 4/5, we are about 4 - 5 weeks out from a potential hard frost. (Hopefully)
What does this mean for lavender growers? It is advised to NOT prune your lavender after Labor Day. If you have left your flowers on your plants like we did in several areas for the bees, NOW IS THE TIME to cut off stems from this summer and trim your plants.
If you cannot do it this weekend, then just leave your trimming till spring.
Remember - cut off the stems and flowers, do not go deep into the woody part. Stay a few inches above. Always use sharp pruners which have been disinfected to avoid spreading disease.
Guess what we will be doing at the Ranch this weekend?
Happy Labor Day to you!
