The Bennett-Curtis House was purchased in 1992 by Scott & Kerry Zizic. The restaurant has since been a family owned and operated business. Starting out as a Fine Dine restaurant and hosting Wedding Ceremonies in the beautifully landscaped gardens and Receptions to follow in the turn-of-the century Victorian Mansion, soon adding a Catering business and hosting many special events like the “Murder in the BC Mansion” Mystery Dinner starting its 27th smashing season this year and one of the newest additions “Wizard Themed Dinners” in its second season!
Scott & Kerry have 5 children, all of whom grew up with the business, working in the restaurant- each taking on a different part to help contribute to the success of this family business! Nicole, the oldest, has taken on a managers role and works in the front of house and office. Briana and Zachary you will find in the kitchen, both trained under Scott (Dad), the head chef, and now run the kitchen for many of the events! Maxwell works both in the kitchen, focusing mainly on catered events, and also off premise at the Cafe. Emma, the youngest, helps out bussing, dishwashing, and in the prep kitchen! The newest addition to the crew, Maverick was born September 2018 and is Scott & Kerry’s first grandchild! You will find him helping Mom in the office and Grandpa in the kitchen or hanging out with his Aunts & Uncles!
The Bennett-Curtis House is an 18 room mansion that was built in 1900 by George M. Bennett. Then purchased by Illinois Senator Edward C. Curtis in 1919. The House is set on spacious grounds shaded by 100 year old maples flanked by bubbling fountains, sweeping lawns, lush cool ferns, & colorful flowers. The interior is beautifully decorated featuring crown molding, oak trims inlay wood floors, moray cloth covered walls, stain glass, velvet drapery, and more. If you are looking for a unique and historical setting for your wedding ceremony, reception, dinner party, shower, or your next event, The Bennett- Curtis House is it. This historical venue can host from 2-250 guests featuring many different rooms and set ups inside the mansion and out in the gardens for your event. >Psychic Luncheon which includes a 5-course lunch & 5-minute personal reading by Jim Shultz or Tami Principe makes for a fun afternoon, perfect for groups, bus tours, ladies day out, bachelorette parties, or just a afternoon with family or friends.
>A recent addition to our special events calendar is our Wizard Themed Dinners. Witches and Wizards are invited to a Wizard's Feast! Join us for a night of magical fun in the fully decorated themed Bennett-Curtis Mansion- with fun scenes & decorations throughout! Get sorted into your houses and order drinks from The Cauldron, our cash bar, serving specialty drinks including Polyjuice potion, Butterbeer, pumpkin juice, and more! Your evening will begin in the bar where you can purchase a variety of themed potions and brews from our themed drink menu and an assortment of appetizers will be served prior to dinner. Then you will cross onto Platform 9 3/4 and join us for a spectacular dinner in the great hall. Be sure to study up on your Wizard Trivia, during dinner you will go head to head with the other houses in a race for the house cup!
> The Bennett-Curtis House offers an unique and fun “Around the World” dining event. These dinners will be inspired by different locations around the world. Our chef will be offering a special 5-course dinner of the featured regions favorites. Try New and Authentic dishes from around the world! Featuring themed nights like “Across the Pond” “Hawaiian Vacation” and more!
> We make painting easy and exciting. Our talented artist will instruct you step-by-step through re-creating the featured painting of the day. At the end of the event, you’ll take home a work of art that you created. Paint by Wine is less expensive than art school and tons of fun!There are no lengthy or expensive commitments as with art classes. "Life is too short for blank walls; unleash your inner Picasso"
> Liquor Tastings Events- Tastings are a night full of specialty drinks paired with a variety of food prepared with the featured vodka, bourbon, tequila, etc. Every month the Bennett-Curtis House will present new and fun drinks and dishes prepared with the liquor of the night. A variety of the liquors will be offered and represented in the drinks and dishes.
> Each year around Halloween the Mansion is transformed into a Haunted Mansion. We feature our Spooktacular full menu with some very interesting entrees. We have many ghosts and ghouls wandering the restaurant. This is a fun week and you won't want to miss it. During this week our "Murder in the BC Mansion" mystery dinner takes on a special twist, we encourage you to come in costume, and join the fun!
