🎥 Meet the three nominees for Best Documentary Short at this year’s PrairieFest Film Showcase! These powerful films explore resilience, community, culture, and the things we stand to lose—offering three very different glimpses into the world around us.
Wonderful World with Clint Townsend | A Documentary About ALS, Family, and an Unforgettable Song
As ALS takes more and more from Clint’s body, his spirit refuses to follow. Supported by family and friends, Clint joins members of the national touring production of The Great Gatsby for an unforgettable recording of “What a Wonderful World”—creating a moving portrait of love, resilience, and the people who continue to show up.
Look at Us Now: A Comic Book Movie
Following a diverse group of urban comic book fans, this documentary explores how geek culture transformed from a punchline into a global phenomenon. Based on a poem by VRO, The Poet, the film celebrates fandom, identity, and the communities built around the stories we love.
Greater Prairie Chicken: A Vanishing Ritual
Filmmaker Vikas Bhatia journeys into the remote prairie grasslands of western Minnesota to document the Greater Prairie Chicken’s extraordinary mating display. There, he encounters a rare hybrid caught between two colliding species. With 96% of this habitat already gone, the film asks what we may lose before we finally act.
