The Brand Associates raises funds through memberships and donations to support cultural activities at Brand Library & Art Center. We fully fund the Music Series, Dance Series, REEL Art Film Series, partially fund the children programming, additions to the permanent collection of books and music, and the Summer Plaza Series. We have sponsored and produced the Brand Works on Paper Juried Exhibition
(a national art show) for forty nine years running. 2022 marks the 50th Anniversary of this nationally-recognized exhibition.
The Brand 52 opening last Saturday night was a spectacular event, and the preview for artists and Brand Associates members was enhanced by the generous support of Total Wine & More. We’re most grateful.

Vahanas: God’s Own Vehicles
a Bharatanatyam Performance
Inspired by the Vahanas or the animal vehicles in the Hindu Pantheon, Malathi Iyengar creates dances that portray these mythological figures through symbols and story telling. The significance of these Vahanas lies both in the mundane and the spiritual. Using vibrant rhythms, sweeping gestures, and facial expressions, dancers showcase Bharatanatyam (Indian classical dance) and folk movements to depict the gods and their animal mounts.

This series curated by acclaimed choreographer, teacher, and producer Jamie Nichols presents top dance companies from southern California performing site-specific work in non-traditional spaces around the Brand Library in Glendale.
Malathi Iyengar & Rangoli Dance Company
Malathi Iyengar established Rangoli Foundation for Art & culture in 1985 and Rangoli Dance Company in 1992 to share performing and visual arts of India. The company features the vibrant south Indian dance form ‘Bharatanatyam’ through strong technique and story telling.
Bharatanatyam is a classical Indian dance form that originated in the temples of South India.
Drawing from the myth and spirituality of south Indian heritage, Iyengar creates dance landscapes that dwell in both traditional and secular, and rhythm and stillness. The dances convey a sense of reverence & mystery, and are offered in the spirit of universal celebration.

The second installment of the Brand Associates Dance Series 2024 curated by Jamie Nichols, is the beautiful company, Re:borN Dance Interactive! Founded in 2016 by Boróka Nagy as a contemporary dance company that challenges the conventional audience-dancer relationship and explores the interconnectedness of movement, emotions, and identity.
The mission of Re:bornN Arts is to create movement experiences that transcend cultural, social, gender, socioeconomic, generational, and language barriers.
Through their services and programs, the company aims to facilitate the feeling of self-agency, a space for community and shared experiences, and a sense of belonging. Re:borN strives to provide life-giving movement experiences that break cycles of isolation, complacency, uniformity, and apathy, and encourage community, creativity, diversity, and expression. In their re-imagining of “HOME” at Brand, Re:borN will present an immersive show that invites the audience to participate.

Did you see old friends at BRAND 51 or did you make new ones? On Saturday night hundreds of attendees honored the artists at BRAND 51 Works on Paper exhibit, and celebrated the arts at Brand Library & Art Center in Glendale. Lots of good vibes we’re shared and the night hummed with laughter only to be punctuated by the bossa nova sounds of Sunset Jive that played throughout the evening. The show is open through September 1, 2023. Congratulations to Victoria Arriola who won the Juror’s prize for “Faint Murmurings.” Other artist honorees included Tallmadge Doyle for “Night Bloom,” Marianne Sadowski for “The Fine Line,” Rebecca Youssef for “Agrifolia,” Anne Pearce for “Western Blue,” and Jared Barbick for “Coffin Load Of 9 Left Behind.” All the art in the show can be viewed @brandlibrary website. A big applause to this year’s juror, Ara Oshagan, who viewed 1,200 pieces of art and carefully chose this year’s participants for the show and awarded its honorees.
