BINGO IN THE BALLROOM!
Get ready for a brand-new night of fun in the ballroom! The Women’s Club of Glen Ridge, in partnership with the Kiwanis Club of Glen Ridge, is bringing Bingo to the clubhouse on Thursday, October 15, and we’re playing for $700 in gift cards and cash prizes!

Doors open at 6 PM, giving everyone time to grab some refreshments, including hot dogs, soft pretzels, b**r, w**e and soda, find a table and get ready to play. Bingo begins at 7 PM.

Register for your spot today!

$40 cash at the door includes $5 admission and 10-game / 4-face Bingo package. Daubers (Bingo Markers) will also be available for purchase. All Bingo supplies are cash only, so come prepared!

Bring your friends, test your luck and join us for what we hope will become a new Glen Ridge tradition!

Remember, BINGO purchases are cash only. Credit cards are accepted for food and beverages.

In 1926, Women’s Club President Mrs. Naomi Chaffee decided our new clubhouse needed a piano and took it upon herself to raise the funds for our Mason & Hamlin Baby Grand. One of her creative ideas? A crossword puzzle she created and sold for 25 cents a copy.

One hundred years later, it’s our turn.

In that same creative spirit, we’re launching our MASON & HAMLIN Piano Restoration Fund by inviting you to sponsor one of the piano’s 88 keys in your name, or in honor of someone special. A handful have special names and meanings, but every key has a story waiting to be told.

Listen as the Music Returns

Explore the keyboard and choose your key. Unsponsored keys give only a muted sound, waiting for someone to give them a voice. Once sponsored, their true notes ring out. Select “Hear What We’ve Raised” to hear the music grow as more keys find their voices.

When the campaign is complete, an artistic rendering of the keyboard with donors’ names on their sponsored keys will hang in the clubhouse as a lasting record of those who helped restore this piece of Club history.

Bring a friend or make a new one as we learn together. We will be learning the traditional Chinese form of the game. Typically, students will be able to learn the basics and play on their own after 4 lessons.

Each lesson, students will learn how to play the game and its strategies, the history and stories behind it, as well as the social implications of the game.

This class will include a copy of our instructor, Dr. Kit Cheung’s, newly published book, "The History, Culture and Everyday Wisdom of Mahjong” which provides a history & detailed instructions on playing this classic game.

Members: $78.50 ($65/session + $13.50 material fee)
Non-Members - $94.50 ($80/session + $14.50 material fee)

106 Years Ago Today: The 19th Amendment

On August 18, 1920, the 19th Amendment was ratified, prohibiting the denial of voting rights on the basis of s*x, a landmark achievement, though for many women of color, meaningful access to the ballot would remain a fight.

Here in Glen Ridge, women had already begun making their voices heard.

In 1912, eight years before the 19th Amendment Glen Ridge elected a woman to its Board of Education. The story behind that election is a particularly interesting chapter in Glen Ridge history and one you can hear on the Women’s Club Audio Tour (link below)

The Women’s Club of Glen Ridge, founded in 1905, was part of an era when women were finding new ways to participate in civic life, advocate for their communities, and lead.

Today we celebrate the women who fought for the vote, those who stepped forward to lead, and those who continued the fight to make that right a reality for all women.
