The reason we have been closing the stand a lot the past week is because my amazing grandmom passed away last Thursday at the age of 93.
My grandmom was something so special. She was the leader of a huge family she made. My grandmom had 14 kids, 36 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. And with this huge family she always made every single one of us feel special and important. She showed up to every single graduation, birthday, life event every single one of us had. She was the most gentle person, never got angry or raised her voice to me. Always cared about everything we talked about. Always up on the gossip and what was going on in everyoneโs life. I will miss her so much, but I am incredibly grateful I got to spend many years with her and my daughter got to spend almost 5 years with her.
Her funeral was yesterday in Philadelphia, the place she raised our entire family. Very sad but beautiful service. She wanted a closed casket and I knew immediately I wanted to be the person who made the flowers for her. I transported 5 giant buckets of flowers to Philly on Tuesday and stayed up all night to make this beautiful memorial piece for her. I used flowers from my farm, hydrangeas cut fresh that day from my grandmoms yard and outsourced the rest. I also had a bunch of dianthus I cut from the farm that I didnโt end up using and gave them out to our family to lay on her casket at her burial. I take comfort in knowing my grandmom is going to be buried with flowers that I put my heart and soul into.
That being said, I am mentally and physically exhausted. We will be closed again today at the stand.
I love you Grandmom, and the last words I said yesterday leaving the cemetery.. thank you ๐ค
