Event and Commercial videography

Who says a memorial service has to be in a church (or graveside)? Saturday I filmed a memorial service at Sam Miller's Restaurant for Tom Leppert who established Sam Miller's at its present location. There were stories and remembrances from many friends and family members. The final video will be a part of a memory collection for the family.

What event can I help you create a wonderful memory to savor for years?

Yesterday Tom and Amy shot Jessica Speakes’ dance school spring recital at the Henrico Theatre. FVDs of the recital will be ready for parents in about a month! Pictures to be posted later!

Friday I was privileged to film a "Faith in Business" event at the 2810 Community Gathering Place in Carytown. The event was hosted by Angi Kane (Church & Snyder Video) and featured Rob White (owner of multiple FASTSIGNS franchises in Virginia) and Craig Stariha (Planning Commissioner in Chesterfield County).

Rob and Craig were interviewed by Angi. They shared
* the biblical principles that they apply to their careers,
* how they put their faith into practice, and
* their successes and struggles with everyday business challenges.

All of us--not only the guests but also the hosts--came away with increased inspiration for applying biblical principals in our careers.

On a more positive note, I completed a VHS conversion to digital for Sue H. for a PowerPoint presentation. It was a rush job and I was able to get her the USB drive less than two days after receiving the VHS tape. Hope the presentation goes well next week!

Do YOU have some old VHS tapes of graduations or other family events that are languishing in a drawer? Let me convert them to DVD or digital file for you! The April Sale is over, but $20 per tape is still a very good deal. Contact me at [email protected]!

My "April Sale" is over - it attracted just two new customers. So, my supposition was correct that it's not about the price. In these days of iPhone video (no matter how bad), many people don't want to pay for professional video work. I've lost count the number of people asking for "premium" wedding and event coverage, but say their budget maxes out at $500. Really? They're paying a thousand dollars for a wedding cake nobody will remember a month later, but want to skimp on videography and photography? Well, maybe everybody will share their selfies and that can suffice.

Just finished a shoot of the keynote address at the Chesterfield Chamber Expo. Thanks to Angi Kane of Church & Snyder Video for hiring me and Tom Wright for this shoot! Diana Ripstein, the keynote speaker, is a dynamic speaker and I believe the participants gained some valuable presentation skills.

When was the last time you watched the video of your child's 1st birthday party? Ten years ago? Twenty? Is your child about to get married and you haven't looked at it since... ONE?

NOW may be the time to dust off those old VHS tapes (as well as your old photos) and bring those home movies into the 21st century! Your timing couldn't be better—I'm running a "50% off" sale now through April 30, so converting a VHS tape to DVD costs only $12.50 (plus tax, plus shipping).

DVDs are much longer-lasting than VHS tapes because the information is digital—it's not subject to the same degradation as an analog storage medium like tape. A more long-lasting solution is a USB drive. If you have your video on a quality USB drive (and don't EVER write to it), it should last for decades. (For safety, I'd make a copy and store it in my safe deposit box. Because, well, you know...) For the longest lasting solution, the latest thing is called "M-disc" and is supposed to last centuries. (This hasn't been proven, of course...) Creating a M-disc requires special hardware, but an M-disc can be read by almost any Blu-ray player.

What about "cloud storage"? It's very reliable, as long as you keep paying the company storing your data—and they stay in business. Remember that no company is forever—not even Blockbuster Video! So, a physical copy is my own preference.

But, back to your child's birthday and graduation videos. Maybe your own old wedding video, too! Why not let me convert those to DVD - or USB drive and let you enjoy them—or embarrass your kid—once again!

Last year we added the option of "live streaming" events to YouTube, Facebook, et. al. This year we've added the capability to have closed captions on your video. This can be done in English (easiest for me!) or any other language (I'm semi-fluent in Portuguese and German, but I'll take on any language!).

For an example of our closed captioning, check out https://vimeo.com/303564752. Click the "CC" button to choose closed captioning. (Note: If you are fluent in either German or Portuguese, you will probably notice some bad grammar or even using the wrong words. Like I said, I'm SEMI fluent! For YOUR video, I would rely on you or a professional translator to ensure accuracy.)

Kathleen and Talon were married on October 27 at Lydia Mountain. This is the highlight video of their wedding day.

Received a wonderful thank you note from Kathleen this week. She had just watched her wedding video and was thrilled with it! That email made my day!

The video business is going well - I just had to purchase another backup hard drive! (WD MyBook 4TB)

Have you ever thought about a video of a funeral? Sounds dark, but it is actually very uplifting and helps family remember how much other people cared for their loved one.

I will be covering a funeral mass at the Church of the Vietnamese Martyrs on Monday.
