When was the last time you watched the video of your child's 1st birthday party? Ten years ago? Twenty? Is your child about to get married and you haven't looked at it since... ONE?
NOW may be the time to dust off those old VHS tapes (as well as your old photos) and bring those home movies into the 21st century! Your timing couldn't be better—I'm running a "50% off" sale now through April 30, so converting a VHS tape to DVD costs only $12.50 (plus tax, plus shipping).
DVDs are much longer-lasting than VHS tapes because the information is digital—it's not subject to the same degradation as an analog storage medium like tape. A more long-lasting solution is a USB drive. If you have your video on a quality USB drive (and don't EVER write to it), it should last for decades. (For safety, I'd make a copy and store it in my safe deposit box. Because, well, you know...) For the longest lasting solution, the latest thing is called "M-disc" and is supposed to last centuries. (This hasn't been proven, of course...) Creating a M-disc requires special hardware, but an M-disc can be read by almost any Blu-ray player.
What about "cloud storage"? It's very reliable, as long as you keep paying the company storing your data—and they stay in business. Remember that no company is forever—not even Blockbuster Video! So, a physical copy is my own preference.
But, back to your child's birthday and graduation videos. Maybe your own old wedding video, too! Why not let me convert those to DVD - or USB drive and let you enjoy them—or embarrass your kid—once again!
