It's been impossible to find the words to convey the devastating sadness that we feel as we join the music community in mourning the loss of our beloved Chris Bratcher since we got the call yesterday.
Bratcher's contribution to the musical and broadcast landscape over the course of his vast career is simply incomprehensible. If you knew Bratcher, or ever listened to his show you already know what a fierce and loyal advocate and supporter he was to every artist, every venue, every circumstance of folks coming together in the name of music and community in the regional area. It was his life, his love, his legacy.
When we started this crazy venture five year ago, The Local Show was the first sponsorship we ever took on. As the only radio show in this region centered around local artists and live music, we felt it to be our obligation to do our part to help support what Bratcher had worked so hard to build for so many years.
Weekly conversations with a man that we had already been a fan of for years were a welcome part of the first of the week as he gathered weekly tunes to spin. They quickly became conversations with a colleague, then a friend. Hearing him mention our venue's name, shouting out our shows on-air and seeing his face in our audience will always be so incredibly meaningful. Bratcher didn't just talk the talk, he walked the walk, he showed up for his people, for his community.
People like Chris Bratcher are the wind behind the sails of the music community, it's up to all of us to carry on his legacy and fighting every day to provide local and regional artists with a platform to make themselves heard. We wouldn't be who we are without people like him...and we're going to miss those weekly talks more than our hearts can even fathom.
Our deepest condolences to Bratcher's family and all who knew him both personally and professionally, he touched so many lives that he didn't even realize.
Thank you Bratcher, for everything. We love you.
