🚨 Bourse Chairman Alert – Please Share with Your Dealers 🚨
This past Saturday at the Coin & Collectibles Fair in New York, we experienced two concerning incidents that I want to bring to the attention of fellow bourse chairs and the broader dealer community:
1️⃣ Attempted Theft at a Table
A young male (described as Colombian, wearing a black baseball cap) approached a dealer and asked to view coins from the showcase. While directing the dealer’s attention from the bottom to the top of the case, he attempted to palm a $20 gold piece. Our security team intervened promptly and escorted him from the show.
2️⃣ Suspected Targeted Follow After the Show (More Serious Concern)
One of our dealers was followed for approximately 20 miles on a parkway after leaving the show. Sensing something was wrong, he exited onto a remote area and noticed two vehicles continuing to follow him. After making multiple turns, including into a cul-de-sac, one vehicle continued straight while another pulled into a driveway. The dealer—who is a former law enforcement officer—was preparing to block the vehicle when it suddenly sped off.
A police report was filed, and through license plate tracking, it was determined that three vehicles were involved.
We believe this dealer may have been targeted at the show, possibly identified by a Spanish-speaking woman who appeared out of place and may have been observing his inventory. He had a large display of gold and silver bullion and was traveling alone.
⚠️ Action Requested:
Please remind all dealers:
Remain vigilant during shows and while handling inventory
Be aware of distractions at the table
Avoid traveling alone with high-value inventory when possible
Stay alert when leaving shows and report any suspicious activity immediately
We will share additional details if they become available. Stay safe and proactive.
