An American flag retirement ceremony respectfully disposes of a worn, torn, faded, or soiled flag through burning or burial.

Tonight, we are not burning a flag, we are retiring a symbol of America's honor, courage, and strength.

Itโ€™s 1500, take a moment to observe the National Moment of Remembrance. For a full minute, pause to reflect on the countless men and women who have died in service to our country, paying their respects and honoring their memory.

Those that made the ultimate sacrifice, you are never forgotten!

A SALUTE TO THE TROOPS!

Trace says it best with Arlington.

It was inspired by United States Marine Corps Corporal Patrick Nixon, who died in battle in 2003. After meeting Nixon's father, Turnbull was inspired to write the song. Adkins said that "This is not a war song, and it has nothing to do with politics. This is a true story."

Lyricsโ€ฆโ€ฆ.

I never thought that this is where I'd settle down
I thought I'd die an old man back in my hometown
They gave me this plot of land
Me and some other men, for a job well done

There's a big White House sits on a hill just up the road
The man inside, he cried the day they brought me home
They folded up a flag and told my Mom and Dad
"We're proud of your son"

And I'm proud to be on this peaceful piece of property
I'm on sacred ground and I'm in the best of company
I'm thankful for those thankful for the things I've done
I can rest in peace
I'm one of the chosen ones
I made it to Arlington

I remember Daddy brought me here when I was eight
We searched all day to find out where my grand-dad lay
And when we finally found that cross
He said, "Son, this is what it cost to keep us free"

Now here I am, a thousand stones away from him
He recognized me on the first day I came in
And it gave me a chill when he clicked his heels
And saluted me

And I'm proud to be on this peaceful piece of property
I'm on sacred ground and I'm in the best of company
I'm thankful for those thankful for the things I've done
I can rest in peace
I'm one of the chosen ones
I made it to Arlington

And everytime I hear 21 guns
I know they brought another hero home to us

We're thankful for those thankful for the things we've done
We can rest in peace
'Cause we are the chosen ones
We made it to Arlington

Yeah, dust to dust
Don't cry for us
We made it to Arlington

Memorial Day, a solemn day dedicated to honoring those who lost their lives while serving in the United States Armed Forces, whether during peace or war.

While Memorial Day is not a celebration, it serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by veterans and military personnel who have passed away. Their legacy lives on through the lives they touched, inspiring generations to come.

Today, at 3 p.m. local time, take a moment to observe the National Moment of Remembrance. For a full minute, pause to reflect on the countless men and women who have died in service to our country, paying their respects and honoring their memory.

This yearโ€™s recipients of the Legion Auxiliary Scholarship were Bryn Winkeler, the daughter of Brad and Michelle Winkeler, and Logan Wilken, the son of Adam and Rose Wilken. They were awarded a $150 scholarship to support their high school education. Bryn and Logan will be attending Mater Dei and Central, respectively, in the fall.

The essay topic this year was โ€œWhat is Wreaths Across America, and why should I and my community become involved?โ€ The committee had a tough time choosing just two essays, but they thoroughly enjoyed reading and learning from the minds of our 8th graders.

Carol Gorman, Auxiliary Treasurer, and Jan Boeckmann, Auxiliary President, presented the check to the winners.
