The Barks & Brews event was designed to bring people (and their pets) together, into the kind of community we are building at Heirloom Georgetown.

Guests were invited to explore a thoughtful mix of activities that included pet adoptions, craft beer tastings, and a playful pet parade. Local businesses such as H-E-B, TAG, and Zoot Pet Hospital showed up in full force to share their offerings and support a shared vision of local engagement and generosity. Our adoption partners connected guests with dogs in need of a home, while Zoomin Groomin offered free services for newly adopted pets.

At Heirloom Georgetown, we are committed to creating a space where neighbors know each other, local businesses thrive, and memories are made. Barks & Brews gave us a glimpse of that future, and we are just getting started.

If this is the first chapter, we can’t wait for what’s next.

On May 10, Heirloom Georgetown’s Barks & Brews turned our future Central Park into a haven of wagging tails, heartfelt adoptions, and joyful connections.

Thanks to the incredible efforts of Final Frontier Rescue Project, Living Grace Canine Ranch, and our partners at Zoot Pet Hospital and Good Water Animal Hospital, many dogs had the opportunity to find their forever homes.

In addition to adoption opportunities, attendees enjoyed a cheerful pet parade, complimentary nail trims from Zoomin Groomin, and local craft beer tastings. Our donation drive collected much-needed supplies to support local rescue operations, with guests contributing food, toys, and blankets throughout the day.

Events like Barks & Brews are a testament to the power of community when it comes together around a purpose. We’re proud to say that this event not only brought awareness to animals but also laid the foundation for future partnerships and events that will make Heirloom Georgetown a place for local connection and compassion.

What happens when you mix rescue dogs, local brews, and an engaged community? You get a perfect Saturday at Heirloom Georgetown’s Barks & Brews event!

Guests enjoyed various exciting activities, including craft beer tastings, a lively pet parade, and a bustling vendor market featuring local favorites like H-E-B, TAG, Zoot Pet Hospital, and Good Water Animal Hospital. Our community came together to support pet adoptions facilitated by Final Frontier Rescue Project and Living Grace Canine Ranch, who brought adoptable dogs looking for loving homes. As a special treat, Zoomin Groomin offered free nail trimmings for every adopted pup.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who participated, volunteered, and supported this meaningful event. Barks & Brews was a powerful reminder of the spirit we’re building at Heirloom Georgetown!

Many people delay buying a home because of common misconceptions. Here are three myths that often hold buyers back:

Myth: A 20 percent down payment is required to purchase a home.

While a larger down payment can lower monthly costs, many loan programs allow much less. Conventional loans can require as little as 3 to 5 percent down, FHA loans need just 3.5 percent, and VA and USDA loans offer zero-down options for eligible buyers. Many state and local programs also provide down payment assistance to first-time buyers.

Myth: Renting is cheaper than buying.

While renting may seem more affordable upfront, homeownership builds equity, offers long-term stability, and protects against rising rent costs. Homeowners may also benefit from tax deductions and potential property appreciation, making buying a smart financial decision in the long run.

Myth: You need a perfect credit score to get a mortgage.

Many lenders approve loans for buyers with credit scores as low as 580 for FHA loans, and some accept even lower scores with larger down payments. Lenders look at overall financial health, including income and debt, rather than just credit scores.

If these myths have kept you from buying a home, you may be closer to homeownership than you think. Explore your options, research assistance programs, and connect with a trusted lender to get started.

A home is more than just four walls—it’s about the neighborhood that surrounds it. Before you fall in love with a house, take a step back and think about what truly makes a place feel like home.

Can you easily stroll to parks, trails, or your favorite local café? The ability to move freely without relying on a car adds convenience and enhances daily life. Access to amenities is just as important. Having great restaurants, schools, and grocery stores nearby makes all the difference in feeling connected and supported in your community. 🏫

Long-term value should also be on your radar. Researching market trends and future development plans can help you invest in a place that will grow in value over time. And perhaps most importantly, consider the sense of community. Does the neighborhood host events, farmers markets, or local gatherings? A place that fosters real connections will make you feel at home before you even move in.

We know that choosing a neighborhood is just as important as choosing a house. That’s why we’re building a walkable, connected community designed for long-term value and vibrant living!

🌿 Big strides are being made at Heirloom Georgetown! Nearly a year after introducing the vision to city council, we’re excited to see momentum building on our 620-acre master-planned community on the west side of Georgetown.

From 240 acres of thoughtfully designed residential neighborhoods to 48 acres of dedicated parkland—and even a future GISD school site—Heirloom is shaping up to be a true destination. 🌳

We’re reimagining the charm of Georgetown’s beloved town square, creating a walkable, welcoming hub that blends nature, neighborhood, and commerce in one connected space.

As Councilmember Shawn Hood put it: “I want this to be a leading edge development.” And we couldn’t agree more. 🤝
