Happy Juneteenth!

If you’re vacationing in Galveston today, you’re spending Juneteenth in the very place where it all began.

Galveston holds a special place in American history as the birthplace of Juneteenth. On June 19, 1865 more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed, Union troops arrived in Galveston and announced that enslaved people in Texas were finally free. That moment is now commemorated nationwide as Juneteenth.

Today, you can celebrate this historic day right here where history was made at the Juneteenth Music Festival & Fireworks at Menard Park.

The free community event features live music, cultural performances, youth recognition, community tributes, and a spectacular fireworks show over the Gulf to close out the evening.

Entertainment includes:

🎵 Gospel, blues, jazz, zydeco, soul, and Tejano music throughout the day
