Setting sail!

Next stop, Sail4th 250! The Official Tall Ship of Texas, the 1877 ELISSA, departs Monday, June 8th, between 10 am and 12 pm from the Galveston Historic Seaport : Home of the 1877 Tall Ship Elissa. For those wanting to be there to send her off, we ask that you do that from the Pier 21 area, as the Seaport will be closed for launch and final preparation.

This departure marks another milestone for ELISSA as she returns to New York, Boston, Savannah, and Pensacola. All ports that she visited in the late 1800s, and NYC again in 1986.

Today in Pirate History ☠

JUNE 3, 1817~ On this day, Jean and Pierre Lafitte cast off from New Orleans and turned their bows westward into the Gulf. Behind them lay the swamps and bayous of Louisiana. Ahead waited a lonely island on the Texas coast, a place few could imagine would soon become a kingdom of sails, cannon smoke, and legend.

Galveston.

From that voyage would rise Campeche, the last great stronghold of the Lafittes. Merchants, privateers, smugglers, and adventurers from across the Gulf would gather beneath its black flags and crowded wharves. For four remarkable years, the island would become the center of a maritime empire that challenged nations and captured the imagination of generations. ~Jean Lafitte.🏴‍☠️👑
