Yesterday’s light rain offers a little relief from this recent dry spell and slightly cooler temperatures make it a little easier to do a garden cleanup. I have always tackled areas by going in w**ding and trimming followed by a leaf rake and wheelbarrow to pick up the debris. Do you have a preferred method? Do your garden w**ds go directly into a w**d bag?

Open Saturday, August 29th 8-4. Achillea ‘Peter Cottontail’. This is an improved version of the Sneezewort that I grew up with. It forms a tidy mound of pure white flowers that resemble Baby’s Breath. It is very hardy, deer and rabbit proof as well as very long blooming with a fall rebloom if cut back. It is drought tolerant and makes a wonderful cut flower in bouquets. Fall planting will insure a big beautiful plant next spring.

Just a few of these left, they are often go unnoticed in the spring. Fall is when they shine. Anemone robustissima. It performs well in partial shade, but will tolerate full sun with adequate moisture. While rabbits leave it alone, deer will sometimes nibble so best planted close to the house. A tall and elegant addition to the garden.

Most of these panicle hydrangeas start out green and move through a white faze before deepening into the dusky pinks we see when the cool nights arrive. With varieties that mature anywhere from 2.5- 12’ tall and everything in between, it is easy to find one to fit every space!
