Marie: “We are a husband and wife duo. We started back in 2017 doing off and on catering events for friends and churches. We wanted to differentiate our food service from our health and wellness ministry, “For Healing the Nations.” Last year we decided to rebrand as Genèse 129 - French for Genesis and the verse 1:29 which describes the original diet our Creator God gave to mankind. (‘See, I give you every seed-bearing plant that is upon all the earth, and every tree that has seed-bearing fruit; they shall be yours for food.’)”
“We live by that principle and encourage others to live by that principle, as well. So, that is the ‘genesis’ of our business. Then we built the business to be more present in the market by doing events like this Farmers’ Moo-ket at Critter Creek, as well as Vegfests and the Vegan Link in Jacksonville. We also plan to be at the Gainesville Vegfest in September (see below) and are available for catering events."
“Our food is inspired by our Haitian Creole cultural cuisine so we use a lot of bold flavors such as épis, a blend of herbs and spices, to bring plant-based food to the next level. We use all natural ingredients and no hydrogenated oils but rather avocado, coconut, and olive oil. This is how we prepare our meals because we believe that whatever we do is for the glory of God. We glorify God by keeping our minds and bodies healthy.”
Nat: “That’s what makes what we do meaningful, beneficial for your health, your life, and also cognitively as it allows you to make better choices.”
Nat: “We are both from Haitian families. I grew up in Haiti and studied in France, learned a lot of cooking there, came here, and continued here.”
Marie: “So we met at our mutual friends' wedding in New York City where I was living at the time. The rest is history.”
Nat: “Gainesville is nice and it’s warm. When you need quietness you have it, when you want to go out and enjoy the area, you’ve got that as well.”
Marie: “I love the peace, quiet, and smaller city atmosphere of Gainesville. Coming from a large city like New York, it allows me to rejuvenate and refresh on a daily basis.”
