Brick District Playhouse The Brick District Playhouse brings Fulton’s historic downtown theater back to life!

Fully restored and ready to host unforgettable performances, community events, and private celebrations in our main stage, balcony, or front space. Brick District Playhouse is a charitable organization dedicated to the restoration of use of the historic theatre at 613 Court Street, Fulton, Missouri. The theatre was originally built in 1928 for both vaudeville productions and motion pictures and wa

s continually operated in the historic downtown district of Fulton for nearly 80 years. Since 2005, several organizations and individuals worked to preserve and renovate the theatre. In 2015, the Brick District Association agreed to assume control of these endeavors and work on the building itself is now underway. The Brick District Playhouse consists of individuals interested in the history of one of mid-Missouri’s few remaining movie houses, dedicated to supporting the performing arts in our community, and determined to continue the efforts of the Brick District to revitalize our unique downtown. Our organization is convinced that the Brick District Playhouse can both preserve a treasure from Fulton’s past and promote a cultural center for its future. Construction work on the building itself will continue while the board seeks ideas, volunteers, and resources to bring this vision back to life. When operational, the venue will house plays, concerts, and a variety of attractions that will again serve as an engine for economic activity in the downtown area. At the same time, the Playhouse will give our community a stage for aspiring actors, singers, and performers of all types who will bring the performing arts back to the Brick District.

What a night at the Brick District Playhouse! ❤️

A huge THANK YOU to Sean of the South for bringing his stories, humor, music, and that unmistakable Southern charm to Fulton last night. It was an absolute pleasure having you on our stage!

Sean’s story is one of those that reminds us that sometimes the most meaningful stories come from simply paying attention to the people and places around us. From growing up in the South and working all kinds of jobs to becoming a nationally known storyteller, author, musician, and speaker, Sean has built a career out of finding the extraordinary in ordinary people and everyday life. His stories make you laugh, sometimes tug at your heart, and almost always leave you thinking about the people who have shaped your own story.

But perhaps the biggest THANK YOU goes to everyone who came out last night.

YOU PACKED THE HOUSE! 👏👏👏

Seeing the Brick District Playhouse filled with people laughing, listening, singing along, and enjoying an evening together is exactly what a community theater is supposed to be about.

Thank you for buying a ticket, inviting a friend, supporting live entertainment, and helping us keep the lights on and the stage alive. Every full house tells us that what we’re doing matters.

And to Sean—thank you for sharing your stories with us and making the Brick District Playhouse part of your journey.

DID YOU KNOW?!

The Brick District Playhouse opened on Thursday evening, January 26, 1928, as the Fulton Theatre Orchestra played the “Star Spangled Banner” to open the evening.

→ The orchestra was augmented by members of the Miller Theatre Orchestra from Jefferson City.

→An article posted the following day emphasized the size of the stage, saying it was large enough to accommodate “the largest of road shows” that could be brought to Fulton.

→The theater originally had 1,000 seats—750 on the main floor and 250 in the balcony.

→ The building had been designed with a 35-by-35-foot stage, dressing rooms on both sides, an orchestra pit and a pipe organ.
