Happy New Year, friends! 🎉🍾🥳 I’m counting today as the first day of the New Year as my kids are FINALLY back in school and I am finally back at work. I took two whole weeks off over the holidays and it was amazing. I spent Christmas with my extended family and New Years cuddle inside nice and quiet with my kiddos and husband.
But now, back to work we go! I’ve got editing, taxes and goal setting to get to but first I wanted to pop in and say hello 👋🏻👋🏻

I have too many emotions wrapped up in these photographs. Every client is important to me, but it hits different when the client is a long time friend. How honored I am to have been able to make these newborn photographs for them. Baby C is just the sweetest little nugget, I could gobble her up.

Can your dog come to your session? YES!
Dogs are such a huge part of any family, you are always welcome to bring them and include them in family photos. It can be helpful to have a friend or family member come along to help with Fido, an extra pair of hands can go a long way when they need a bit of time to run or sniff or, ahem, take a potty break.
I am so, so thankful for each and every client that has supported me this year. Whether it was a first time client or a repeat client, it is such an honor for me to watch your family grow. To see your love for each other. And to document this little moment in time.

When my oldest was a toddler, she had a lovey that went EVERYWHERE with her. It was one of those soft fleece little blanket squares, with an animal head on it. It was a little monkey, appropriately named Monk, and we had 3 of them that were in heavy rotation. I was terrified that they were going to get lost because of course you couldn’t buy them anymore. Whenever it was time for Monk to take a “bath” (or, hot water wash cycle in the washing machine) she would immediately bite his face to reshape it just the way she liked it.
I don’t really know when she outgrew Monk, it happened slowly over time. Once her favorite, can’t live without it comfort item, by the time she was six or seven she barely even slept with him at night. New, bigger, more colorful stuffed animals took his place. And before I knew it, Monk (v1.0, 2.0 and 3.0, seems we managed to never lose any of them) was put away into the closet and eventually made it to a donation pile.
So, if the question is, “can I bring my child’s favorite lovey to our session” my answer is a resounding and enthusiastic YES. (Swipe to see a super throw back snapshot of Monk)

Like when your littlest one shows me her “wiggly” tooth and big sis tries to pull it out right then and there. Or when big sis steals the joke that little sis is trying to tell me and big tears ensue. Why would I photograph these moments? Because these are the moments that make YOUR family, YOU! They are unique to your kids and your family and these are the tiny moments that fill your days and weeks and years.

My kids have school picture day at their elementary school this week and quite frankly I threw the order form away. I had their photos taken three times last year and none of them turned out good.

Which do you prefer 👉🏻 Posed portraits or candid moments?
BOTH! I love both of them! They both have their place in your collection of photographs from your family session. The more formal, posed portraits might end up framed on your wall or used for holidays cards/gifts. While candid moments are perfect for creating photo albums and forever bringing you back to this time when your kids are exactly this age. Their boisterous laugh, their squishy cheeks. You know, all the things that make your mama heart sing.
So I say, let’s do both! The best of both worlds 🌎

My oldest child is on the cusp of being a tween. Maybe 10 year olds are already considered tweens? Whatever it is, she’s well on her way to her teenage years. And the thing is - I have no idea how we got here. At my desk I have her kindergarten school picture right next to my computer. And she looks so tiny. So small. So young.
And I know that all too soon I’ll be looking back at her fifth grade school picture (that I’ll be taking myself this year, but that’s a post for another day) and wondering where did the time go.
They do not get younger, my friends. And as much as you think you will remember every little thing I promise you, you will not. But photographs will help give you a glimpse into the tiny people they used to be. Don’t ever say no to taking that photo. To being in that photo with them. To documenting this fleeting time. It goes by way too quick.

The first time you realize your kiddo is too big to pickup comfortably, is one of the biggest gut punches ever.
How did that happen so quickly?? Weren’t they just camped out on your hip day after day after day? How did their arms and legs get so long and their body get so heavy??
Time is a thief, that’s for sure. Snuggle those little ones tight. It may seem like you are holding them too much, but I promise you one day you will miss it. And hey, at least you get sculpted arms💪🏻as a bonus! ☺️
Hi everyone! After being really unhappy with my daughters school picture last year, I decided to do my own and offer them to the public. Normally I only work with preschools. If you'd like to have a beautiful school picture style portrait of your child (ANY school age kids is welcome!) please visit me on one of my school picture days (9/10 and 10/8). I went to the beach this weekend and all was right in the world 🌊
When we moved here last year I was excited to be closer to the beach but it wasn’t a driving factor of our move. But now I feel myself craving being near the ocean. To hear the waves, smell the salty air and feel the sand in my toes. Bonus points if I can find a sharks tooth or rad shell. It’s been such a pleasant surprise to find someplace that I connnect with and that grounds me so much.

What’s my #1 tip for having a newborn session with older siblings?
✨Let them be involved as much or as little as they want✨
Yes I will make sure to get a family photos of everyone together. I will try my hardest to get a photo of just the kiddos together. But after that, let them decide how much they want to be a part of it.
Why? It puts them in “control” and very little pressure on them. I have found, time and time again, the less you push (especially toddler age siblings) the more they want to be included and involved.
And because they are doing it on their accord, they are usually happier and more excited to participate. Happy kiddo, happy mama, happy photographer ☺️
