Not In Our Town’s new film Minnesota Neighbors profiles the brave actions of Minnesota residents during ICE’s Operation Metro Surge this winter.
Millions of people watched the escalating level of racial profiling and violence in Minnesota this winter during ICE’s Operation Metro Surge. In the aftermath of two killings of U.S. citizens by federal agents, tens of thousands of Minnesotans used their voices, presence and know-how to stand in compassion with those who were harmed and affirm their commitment to democracy and the rule of law. Portraits in Minnesota Neighbors include immigrants bravely speaking up, clergy, journalists, teachers, local officials, doctors, restaurateurs, unions, business owners, and families who overcame their own fears to stand up for each other and for our freedoms as Americans. Their stories provide guidance, hope, and inspiration for communities everywhere.
Central Valley Neighbors: Spectrum of Solidarity
The film will be followed by a panel of local leaders who will speak to the spectrum of solidarity for Fresno (and Central Valley) Neighbors. Facilitated by Christine Barker-Dominguez of Fresno Immigrant and Refugee Ministries - FIRM, Jagmeet Singh from Jakara Movement, Nkauj Iab Yang from Cal Defense and Nora Zaragoza-Yañez from Faith in the Valley will share reflections on the film, the present realities in the Valley and opportunities for local action.
Proceeds from the film after costs will support travel funds for people being released from detention across our region.
This screening has been made possible by a partnership between Not In Our Town, Tower Theatre, FIRM (Fresno Immigrant and Refugee Ministries) and the Jakara Movement with the support of Sierra Health Foundation and Central Valley Community Foundation.
