Wow! A lot has happened since my last post here at Willow Acres! The crazy snowstorm, then a vacation to texas, and then the ice storm. I did have standing water in my basement due to the power outage as well as trees and lots of branches down following the ice storm. All of that seems so minor now with the flooding that was to come.
Despite being in the flood evacuation zone here in Fremont, Willow acres is thankfully on high ground so I was able to stay…and yes the goats were also able to stay! You’d be surprised (well maybe not) how many messages/texts I got not only asking about if the goats were okay but many offering to house them if needed!
Realizing how fortunate I was and how minuscule my spring to do list seemed after witnessing the flooding and those direclty affected, I’d be selfish not be down serving others. I spent 2 weekends helping/witnessing our community come together with such resilience and strength. Anything from filling sand bags, to stacking sand bags, pump watch shifts, debris clean up, sand bag removal, supply collection/distribtion and even those making sure everyone was well fed with warm meals and smiles and a shoulder to lean on.
As a healthcare worker who worked through COVID, the look in people eyes during the flooding in Fremont felt eerily similar to that of hospital staff during those unknown times, especially when the flood waters/wind unexpectedly took over downtown. I could see/feel the fear and unknown in everyone’s eyes behind all that fight, strength and determination. Despite that, everyone pushed on and continue to do what needed to be done…even if we didn’t always know what that was.
I have always been proud to be part of this small community here in Fremont, but now that seems such an understatement. Fremont strong!!! Thank you to everyone both from the community and surrounding areas for all your support!
Now for goat update!
Liam is now 12 weeks old (almost 13) and hardly seems like I can call him a baby anymore. He is fully weaned from momma and has mostly figured out grazing but still needs to learn the plants I dont want him to eat! He is taller than his momma now and Lila.
I didn’t get a lot of the flower beds tended to yet but they still look pretty! And got a late start on the greenhouse but still have plants growing quickly! Will be time to transplant many of them today and get after cleaning out flower beds!
