“In the cold, I find I can think straight; the air feels clean and uncluttered. I have faith in the practicality of the north, it’s ability to prepare and endure, the peaks and troughs of its seasons.”
“Wintering” - Katherine May
As the days enter an increasingly rapid decent into winter months I am mourning a bit of my summer season - but also making the adjustments that help embrace this upcoming season. Though there is a little sadness as summer ends, I can’t deny there is a little eagerness to settle into the season of “rest.” The season of books and early bedtimes. It’s as if I finally have permission to slow down the forward progress and “winter.” Though the winter gets long on the backside, there is something slightly calming in its beginning. As long as I don’t deny it coming by adding in extra frenzy into the last days of fall and instead start my mental shift.
All the outside dahlias are dug and the hightunnel will wait until the winds calm. So today I visited Big Pine Books and added to my collection for winter. Today I’m reading “wintering” by Kathrine May.
