One of the things I love about having our farm serve as an events facility is all of the great people we have met along the way.

We are blessed to have had our barns at Willowbrook Farm serve as a backdrop for many events throughout 2016. From weddings, corporate events, camp outs, fundraisers, concerts & bicycling tours it has been a great year. Now we are finishing 2016 out with a Christmas lights display.

My heart is so heavy. No, I didn't know them but Rory sure makes you feel like you do when you read his posts. It doesn't help that I am a mom of small children.

A couple of weeks ago I told my husband that I wanted to go to Marcy Jo's for breakfast. We have been going in a million different directions, have a million things to do and shouldn't sneak the time out of our day for the 40 minute drive.. or should we?

We made the time and I am so glad that we did. I just felt moved to go.

Marcy Jo's is the cutest little place to have breakfast or lunch. It was a sweet down home experience. I love a place where strangers chat and a delay in seating or service just doesn't matter. What a gift that life and the end of life is put into perspective through these people's lives while we still have time to get it right.

A few days ago we went back. This time I wanted our kids to go. They have heard pieces of Joey's story, have read some of Rory's posts over my shoulder and have shed tears with mine. I told them the icing was so thick on the cinnamon rolls that you couldn't even see them and as they stood in front of the bakery case and asked me where the cinnamon rolls were, I laughed as three trays were right in front of them with icing so thick .. you guessed it.. they couldn't see them.

I didn't take them for the cinnamon rolls though. My children are 6, 11 and 12. As we sat at our table "When I'm Gone" played on the CD player. Sweet, sweet song.. and oh so heart breaking. I had inadvertently heard Marcy tell someone that that day would be her last day there for a while. That things were declining with Joey and I got the impression that she was headed to Indiana.

I told my kids that Marcy was Joey's sister in law and my 6 year old watched her working intently. He looked up at me and said "I'm sad for her and her family".

Yes. That is what the trip was for.. Not to be sad for them as much as it was to think of them, of others, and to appreciate all that we have or even don't have in our lives.

Each day is a gift. Thank you Rory and Joey for giving others the gift of perspective through your story. So many lessons to learn from your posts. So many lessons to learn from the way that Joey lived. I pray for comfort to Rory and his family.

…not long after Indy’s birthday my wife decided that enough is enough. She was ready to stop fighting and she told me so. She said the flowers would soon be blooming back in Tennessee…
