The only person I’m in competition with is yesterday’s version of myself. With that in mind, here’s a little MPH vision board.

The Beast is where we are today. At some point in the future, I’d love to add a BMW 7 Series sedan to the fleet. And maybe someday, the ultimate dream: the Cadillac Escalade IQ — a fully electric luxury SUV with ridiculous range.

For clarity, the BMW and Cadillac pictured are inspiration only and are not currently part of the MPH fleet.

Good morning!

I'd like to address something quickly.

Under Massachusetts law, vehicles used to transport passengers for hire are generally required to have livery registration. There is an exception for rideshare vehicles operating through companies such as Uber and Lyft, which I can explain further if anyone is interested, but private hire transportation operates under different requirements.

In order to register a vehicle for livery, an operator must carry commercial insurance with substantial liability coverage. These policies are expensive and can cost thousands of dollars per year, but that coverage is extremely important. If the worst-case scenario happens and a passenger is injured, you want to know that the vehicle and operator transporting you are properly insured.

I frequently see posts in community groups advertising airport transportation at prices significantly below what established livery companies typically charge. Many of those posts also don't show the vehicle being used or, more importantly, its license plate.

As a consumer, I think it's reasonable to ask a couple of questions:

How is the service being offered at that price?

And is the vehicle properly registered and commercially insured to transport passengers for hire?

A legitimate operator should have no problem showing that their vehicle has livery plates or providing a current certificate of insurance upon request. That information isn't confidential. If someone becomes evasive when you ask basic questions about licensing and insurance, I would take that into consideration before putting yourself or your family in their vehicle.

I understand that private black car service isn't inexpensive. I try to keep my pricing competitive while also operating legally, carrying the proper insurance, maintaining my vehicle, and running a sustainable business.

Today’s trip brought MPH Livery down Fifth Avenue, past Bergdorf Goodman, through Midtown, and right outside The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York

Boston will always be home, but every once in a while it’s nice to let the office stretch its legs a little farther south.

Not a bad backdrop for a workday.

Something crossed my mind yesterday after a brief conversation with one of my clients, and I think it's worth saying.

When someone books a ride with me, they're trusting me with more than just getting from Point A to Point B.

Sometimes you're getting into the vehicle yourself. Other times, you're trusting me with your spouse, your parents, your kids, your friends, or someone else you care about. You're counting on me to get them where they're going safely.

I understand the responsibility that comes with that.

After nearly two decades of professional driving, safety is something I take very seriously. But I also never want it to become something I take for granted. Every passenger in my vehicle is somebody's family member, somebody's friend, and somebody who matters.
