Welcome back, Porsha Inman!

“Hi everyone! My name is Porsha, and I’m excited to be part of the Panther City Dance event. I was asked to share a short bio about myself, so here we go.

I’m from a small Texas town and come from a family line of country and swing dancers. Naturally, I eventually caught the country dancing bug myself, though not until the middle of college. I was on dance team in high school and college, though not for country dance at the time. Country and swing dancing were always part of family conversations, and once I stepped into it myself, I quickly made the transition.

Three-step came first, then two-step and waltz. After that, I discovered Fort Worth Shuffle and eventually several different swing styles. There’s a lot more in between, but I’ll keep it short.

Early on, I taught and judged cheerleading and dance team, and for the past ten years I’ve been teaching and judging country bar competitions. I love watching people grow in their dancing, but even more than that, I love seeing people have fun and truly enjoy life on the dance floor.

As judges, we’re often asked what we look for. My simple answer is this:
Dance to the music with solid timing. Show connection with your partner and the crowd, including the judges. Keep your transitions smooth. Be unique. Avoid repeating the same moves over and over. Be mindful not to impede traffic on the floor. Most of all, make us look at you.

There’s always more to judging than can be said in a short bio, but these are key reminders that can’t be repeated enough.

Good luck to everyone dancing at Panther City Dance, and most importantly, have fun out there!”
