Unboxing new things might genuinely be our favorite part of building this space. And honestly, Laolu Studios is like a box of chocolates, you never know what prop you’re gonna get.

First up: the wood partition that’s been showing up in basically every studio on your feed lately. Yep, it’s in ours too, and it might just be our new favorite prop. Ours is the 7ft version, which took some digging to track down. Comment “chocolate” and we’ll send you the link.

Then there’s this chocolate brown chair. The shape alone has us thinking through a dozen poses already. Want Madi to try a few out tomorrow?

We were feeling nostalgic today, flipping through old tours, and whew. The theme of this one? But, God.

It’s been almost 10 months since our last studio tour, but yall still came (s/o to our fave videographer Classy Virtual Tours).

But trust us…the work hasn’t stopped. God’s been sending the people. We’ve just been unlocking the door.

Let’s catch you up:
• We added an in-house photographer to the team! Meet Shanelle (Shanelle Hope | Dallas Photographer). She’s been holding it down with headshots, branding, and those milestone moments. Her style? Chef’s kiss. Her energy? Right on brand.
• Speaking of good energy: Ida (Raw Motive Photography)our wedding dream girl meets studio host. If you’ve walked in and immediately felt taken care of, it’s probably thanks to her. She’s giving concierge. Hype team. Behind-the-scenes queen. All in one. (Don’t go poaching her. Just book.)
• We launched Creator Days. Collaborative work sessions for creatives to connect, shoot, and build without breaking the bank. It’s been beautiful. More to come.
• We’ve been linking up with dope photogs like The Model Influencer | Content Management for styled shoots, workshops, and mini sessions.
• New year. New furniture. 80% of the space got a glow-up. If you haven’t been in a while, it’s giving “who is she?” Fresh. Clean. Elevated.
• We’re top ranked on Google. As in #1. That’s y’all. The reviews you leave?
“Best studio in DFW hands down.”
“Professional, inspiring, and Black-owned? Say less.”
“Felt like I was creating in my living room. If my living room had champagne and hand-painted backdrops.”
• From 17 bookings in one early month… to 80 in the same month, this year. All word of mouth. All love.
• And then there’s Brain Flower Studios | Making Black Creatives Feel Seen 💐. Our very first Muse of the Stu resident. Yaasameen came in with The Heart Show. A full-on art experience celebrating hair as art through photos, film, and sound. Iconic doesn’t even cover it.

Oh and Bun B came shot a video in our space. 🤘🏾Who is next, Beyoncé?

So yeah. The studio’s evolving. Still us. Come see what’s new. Bring a friend.

Over the years, we’ve had so many conversations with photographers and creators who only shoot in natural light. So we brought continuous lighting into the space to open our guests up to a new way of showcasing their creativity.

One of our most popular pieces of equipment is our spotlight. It takes no experience to use, just the power button. What started as one person’s spotlight shoot has grown into a movement within our community.

To every guest who’s collaborated with us on socials: you are a wave maker. You’re inspiring thousands of people to try something new, even when it feels cringy at first.

PS: next time you’re in studio, pull the Mylar roll from the changing room and attach it to a C stand with a couple clamps. Point the fan at it and see what kind of movement you can create with the light.

Texture and Architecture are the real stars of Laolu II ✨

Meet Gabrial Rushton, glowing through a few test shots inside Laolu II. We wanted to see how the space held up against real light and real movement before anything is official, and she made it easy to fall in love with what’s coming.

If there’s one thing you’ll notice as we keep pulling back the curtain (pun very much intended), it’s texture. The architecture isn’t background here, it’s part of the story, and we’re just getting started showing you why.
