Tomorrow, June 19th, is a very important day. One, that in today’s political climate, is trying to be erased. The systemic racism that our country was built on, and most mainstream religions perpetuate, means that we all grew up with racial biases. No matter how progressive I am or how many of those internalized systems I dismantle, I still have more work to do. I urge you to take the necessary steps to start educating yourself on these issues. When you are confronted with something new, don’t fight. Apologize, admit you didn’t know and do better. We can never truly grasp the lived experience of someone who society judges negatively solely by the color of their skin.
